Leadership For Skilled Education Foundation (branded as Leadership for Equity, LFE) is a non-profit organisation based in Pune, Maharashtra, working to strengthen India’s public education system so that every child learns and thrives. We envision public education systems that refuse to let children down.
LFE partners with state and district governments across multiple states—including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Haryana—to improve teaching practices and build sustained academic support structures within the public system. Our work is anchored in the belief that public education systems are the gatekeepers of social equity, and strengthening them is essential to ensuring that every child has access to strong foundational and future-ready learning.
Approach
LFE’s systems-change approach focuses on improving classroom practice and enabling government ownership through three core levers:
- Co-creating high-quality curricular resources and building teacher capacity
- Developing academic leadership to coach and mentor teachers
- Providing data-driven advisory support and policy implementation guidance
Our model empowers teachers as instructional leaders and embeds long-term support through government-run mentor cadres, continuous classroom observation cycles, and in-system academic structures. Technology plays a critical role, including an in-house Classroom Observation App for real-time monitoring and a WhatsApp-based teacher support chatbot for contextual resource delivery.
The approach is iterative and context-responsive, grounded in classroom realities and tailored to state and district needs. Implementation varies across geographies—whether working directly with teachers or through government-appointed mentors—ensuring relevance and feasibility within existing structures. A continuous feedback loop of training, observation, and coaching moves beyond one-time interventions toward sustained practice change. All programs are co-designed and co-implemented with government partners to ensure scale, sustainability, and systemic ownership, ultimately leading to improved student learning outcomes in foundational and future literacy.
About KGBV Strengthening, Andhra Pradesh
LFE has a partnership with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to improve the quality and outcomes of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) across the state. The project aims to pilot innovations in 5–7 schools in the first phase and then grow to multiple districts, focusing on improving girls’ learning, empowerment, and transition outcomes.
Job Description and Responsibilities
The Academic Coordinator will support the implementation of student-focused interventions in the allocated KGBV schools, working closely with students, teachers, and the School Principals. The role will focus on strengthening students’ foundational learning, grade readiness, confidence, voice, agency, and well-being. The Coordinator will work closely with the school principals, GCDOs (Girl Child Development Officers), teachers, and students, in collaboration with the LFE Project Manager and the senior team members. The role will support the implementation of academic, gender, and adolescent development interventions and identify school needs that require additional support.
The Coordinator will facilitate structured learning and dialogue spaces that enable girls to learn, question, reflect, and express themselves across areas such as foundational learning, gender norms, menstrual hygiene management (MHM), self-expression, voice, and agency. The Coordinator will also track student participation and learning progress and use assessment and classroom evidence to identify areas for support.
The ideal candidate will have prior classroom teaching or facilitation experience, subject-level familiarity, and an understanding of FLN, grade readiness, and adolescent development. Experience working with adolescent girls is preferred, and a gender-sensitive and inclusion-focused lens is essential.
We are looking for a reflective practitioner with strong facilitation and execution skills who is proactive, open to feedback, and comfortable working in dynamic, collaborative, and field-intensive environments.
The responsibilities are as follows:
Project Implementation (50%)
- Support foundational learning for students (Grades 6-7) in KGBV schools by facilitating planned academic support sessions aimed at bridging the foundational gaps in literacy & numeracy and improving grade-level readiness, focusing on English & Mathematics.
- Implement gender sensitisation sessions for students (Grades 6-9) using created modules and facilitation plans, ensuring sessions are age-appropriate and contextually relevant.
- Facilitate safe and inclusive dialogue spaces for girls, encouraging participation and open conversations on sensitive topics related to gender, health, and well-being with support from the project team.
- Coordinate closely with school principals and teachers to ensure smooth implementation of academic and gender-focused activities.
- Collect, document, and reflect on program data and field insights, supporting monitoring, learning, and reporting processes.
Content Creation & designing (30%)
- Prepare detailed session plans for student learning sessions, gender sensitisation activities, and dialogue circles based on existing frameworks and templates.
- Collaborate with teachers and field teams to adapt content based on classroom realities, student responses, and implementation challenges.
- Incorporate gender, inclusion, and socio-emotional learning perspectives into sessions and materials with guidance from senior team members.
- Support the piloting and revision of content and session plans by capturing classroom feedback and sharing improvement suggestions.
Stakeholder Management (20%)
- Coordinate with school principals, teachers, and district officials to support scheduling, communication, and smooth on-ground implementation.
- Support the organization of review meetings with government stakeholders by preparing notes, documentation, and follow-up actions.
- Represent the organization in meetings and workshops at the district or block level when required, along with senior team members.
- Assist in preparing donor and internal reports by compiling field updates, stories, photographs, and basic data.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or Master’s Degree in either Mathematics or English or Education, Development, Management, Social work or related disciplines.
- Minimum 1 year of classroom teaching or facilitation experience with middle or secondary grade students on FLN or adolescent development or gender-focused initiatives is preferred.
- Proven experience and understanding of working with adolescent girls or gender empowerment.
- Familiarity with foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) initiatives and classroom practices.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating sessions with adolescent girls, especially on gender, life skills, or well-being themes.
- Prior experience coordinating with government schools or education departments is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Working knowledge of Telugu is mandatory.
- Strong facilitation skills, especially in holding safe and inclusive dialogue spaces with adolescents.
- Demonstrated a gender-sensitive lens; comfortable engaging with sensitive topics such as gender norms and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; working proficiency in Telugu is mandatory.
- High-quality documentation, observation, and report-writing capability (non-assumptive, evidence-based).
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills with school and government partners.
- Strong planning and execution skills in dynamic, field-intensive environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and presentation design.

Location and Compensation
Location: In and around KGBV Akonduru, KGBV Gampalagudem, KGBV Reddygudem in NTR District and KGBV Chirala, KGBV Chinnaganjam in Bapatla District, and KGBV Santhamagaluru in Prakasam District, Andhra Pradesh.
Compensation: In addition to being part of a young and dynamic learning team, the individual will receive healthy compensation at par with the non-profit sector benchmark for this position, commensurate with the individual’s prior experience and qualifications. The current compensation band offered, based on fit and experience, is 3.6-4.2 lakhs INR per annum CTC.
