Job Description:

PRIMARY DUTY:

The online nursing programs are seeking candidates to serve as adjunct faculty for online nursing courses delivered in 7-week sessions within our RN-to-BSN and MSN programs. Placement in the adjunct faculty pool does not guarantee a teaching assignment. Assignments are made on a session-by-session basis according to program need and are based on the candidate’s verified academic credentials and content expertise. Decisions regarding subsequent teaching assignments will also consider whether the adjunct faculty member has met the teaching expectations established and communicated by the program.

Nursing adjunct faculty members will work directly with the program coordinator, program faculty, and the Chair of Nursing to develop and/or teach courses in the online programs. The position requires the ability to effectively deliver online curriculum in a manner that actively engages students, ensures academic rigor, and provides timely communication and feedback to students. Adjunct faculty will also be expected to attend virtual meetings with program faculty and staff as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Develop and teach courses within the online nursing program as assigned.

2. Develop course syllabi, lesson plans, and associated materials for effective online delivery.

3. Effectively utilize and manage online course delivery systems, tools, and techniques.

4. Ensure the continuous improvement of instruction through the identification and implementation of best practices.

5. Provide feedback on discussion posts and short assignments within 48–72 hours, and on major papers/projects within 5 days of submission. Respond to student communications within one business day.

6. Model effective oral and written communication that engages students, provides clarity, and improves student learning.

7. Attend nursing program meetings with the program director and faculty virtually.

8. Ensure the content of course materials and assessment tools correspond with course and program learning outcomes.

9. Assist the Director of Nursing in program curriculum design and evaluation as necessary to ensure compliance with the Missouri Department of Higher Education, the Higher

Learning Commission, the Missouri Nursing Practice Act, and NLN CNEA.

10. Aid in the review and update of a systematic evaluation plan, which outlines program outcomes and competencies.

11. Develop effective relationships with faculty, students, and partner agencies.

12. Ensure that student records are gathered and maintained as required and in a manner that ensures confidentiality and FERPA compliance.

13. Assist in the identification and the recommendation of additional adjunct faculty.

14. Abide by the nursing program faculty guide and expectations of the role.

15. Meet guidelines set forth by the Missouri Nursing Practice Act for approved nursing programs.

16. Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics and perform other administrative duties as assigned.

17. Attend advisory committee meetings when available.

18. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree in nursing. Adjunct faculty teaching in the master's level program must hold a doctorate degree in nursing or related field.

         

Certification/License: Unencumbered multistate RN license         

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in an academic nursing environment as an instructor with at least 1 year of experience teaching online courses; at least 3 years of experience as a practicing RN.

Skills: Proficient in online learning technologies; exceptional written and verbal communication.

Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Courses are delivered in accelerated 7-week terms, requiring faculty to manage a compressed instructional timeline while maintaining rigor and responsiveness. Most work will be conducted online; however, the faculty member will be expected to meet with students at times that fit their schedule using Zoom or Teams web conference or phone. The faculty member’s work environment should be conducive to productivity and student privacy.

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED:

Laptop or Desktop computer, Canvas LMS, Zoom or Teams web conferencing, and other online learning technologies.         

               

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to sit for extended periods, use computer equipment for prolonged periods, and communicate via web conferencing platforms.
