Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced Analytical Sciences professional to establish and lead our in-house analytical capabilities. The role will be responsible for developing analytical methods, product characterization, stability studies, raw material qualification, and scientific root-cause investigations that support formulation development and commercial product performance.
This role will work closely with Formulation R&D, Quality, Regulatory, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Packaging teams to generate reliable scientific data that drives product innovation and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Analytical Method Development
- Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain analytical methods for cosmetic formulations and raw materials.
- Design analytical protocols for routine testing and product evaluation.
- Establish laboratory SOPs, analytical specifications, and GLP practices.
Product Characterization
- Perform analytical evaluation of products using parameters such as:
- pH
- Viscosity
- Rheology
- Particle Size
- Texture
- Spreadability
- Physical & Chemical Stability
- Generate scientific characterization reports to support product development.
Stability & Compatibility Studies
- Design and execute:
- Accelerated Stability Studies
- Long-Term Stability Studies
- Photostability Studies
- Packaging Compatibility Studies
- Transportation Stability Studies
- Analyze stability data and recommend formulation improvements.
Sunscreen Analytical Support
- Support sunscreen product development through:
- UV Filter Characterization
- Photostability Assessment
- Independent Verification of SPF-related analytical data
- Validate supplier-generated technical claims through in-house testing.
Root Cause Analysis
- Lead structured investigations for formulation and product failures using:
- Fishbone Analysis
- 5 Why Methodology
- Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Elimination Methodology
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify corrective and preventive actions.
Raw Material Qualification
- Develop qualification protocols for raw materials.
- Verify supplier Certificates of Analysis (CoA).
- Build analytical specifications for critical ingredients.
Scientific Documentation
- Generate scientific evidence to support:
- Product claims
- Regulatory documentation
- Technical communications
- Maintain complete analytical documentation and laboratory records.
Laboratory Setup & Management
- Establish and maintain analytical laboratory infrastructure.
- Develop laboratory SOPs and documentation systems.
- Ensure compliance with GLP and internal quality standards.
Preferred Equipment Experience
Experience with one or more of the following analytical instruments:
- HPLC
- UV-Visible Spectrophotometer
- FTIR
- Gas Chromatography (GC)
- Brookfield Viscometer
- Rheometer
- Particle Size Analyzer
- Texture Analyzer
- Stability Chambers
- Karl Fischer Titrator
Desired Candidate Profile
- M.Sc., M.Tech., or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cosmetic Science, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related disciplines.
- 4–10 years of experience in Analytical R&D within Cosmetics, Personal Care, Pharmaceuticals, OTC, or FMCG.
- Strong experience in analytical method development and validation.
- Hands-on expertise in stability testing and analytical instrumentation.
- Experience supporting cosmetic or sunscreen formulation development is preferred.
