We’re looking for an Android Engineer to lead the development of the mobile applications that control our industrial robots for construction automation. This role is open to exceptionally strong candidates with 1-3 years of experience who can operate at a senior level — you’ll own the Android codebase end-to-end, set technical direction for the mobile stack, and work closely with our robotics team to build interfaces that operators rely on in real-world, high-stakes environments. If you’re excited about pushing robotics applications forward and want ownership over a critical piece of the product, we’d love to talk.
Requirements
- 1-3 years of professional Android development experience, but exceptionally strong: a track record of shipping complex, production-grade native apps and operating with senior-level ownership and judgment
- Expert-level Kotlin (Java experience a plus); deep understanding of the Android SDK and app architecture (MVVM, Clean Architecture, etc.)
- Strong command of Kotlin Coroutines, dispatchers, and structured concurrency, and a solid grasp of Android component lifecycles (Activity/Fragment/ViewModel/Service) and how they interact with real-time data streams
- Proven experience designing and maintaining apps that handle real-time data, low-latency communication, and hardware/device control
- Familiarity with Magisk, root-level Android customization, and system-level modifications on custom or embedded hardware
- Strong grasp of concurrency, multithreading, and performance optimization for resource-constrained or safety-critical applications
- Experience with networking protocols (REST, WebSockets, MQTT, or similar) for real-time robot control and telemetry
- Solid understanding of SQLite and relational databases, including schema design and query/database performance optimization
- Experience building or maintaining backend services with Python and FastAPI, including RESTful API design
- Demonstrated ability to drive code quality through reviews, testing, and sound architectural decisions
- Comfortable owning technical decisions independently and collaborating cross-functionally with robotics, hardware, and backend teams
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices
- (Bonus) Experience building or customizing HMI (Human-Machine Interface) layers for industrial, embedded, or field-operated devices
- (Bonus) Experience with Bluetooth/BLE, ROS, or other robotics communication frameworks
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain native Android applications for robot control and monitoring
- Design and build the HMI (Human-Machine Interface) layer that operators use to control and monitor robots in the field
- Define and evolve the technical roadmap for the mobile platform
- Design intuitive, reliable UI/UX for operators working in demanding field conditions
- Apply sound use of Kotlin Coroutines, dispatchers, and lifecycle-aware components to keep the app responsive and stable under real-time load
- Design and optimize local data storage (SQLite) for performance and reliability
- Optimize app performance, stability, and real-time data handling
- Contribute to backend API work (FastAPI/Python) when needed to unblock mobile features
- (Bonus) Work with Magisk and system-level Android customization to tailor the OS environment for our hardware (kiosk mode, permissions, device provisioning, etc.)
Benefits
- Lead mobile engineering at a fast-moving startup at the forefront of robotics and AI innovation
- Shape technology that will directly impact and modernize the construction industry
- Work alongside a talented, passionate team building real-world robotics products
- High ownership role with significant influence over technical direction
- Competitive compensation and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the industry
