Duties & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Database Administrator (DBA) Intern to join our Database Engineering team. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in managing and supporting enterprise databases, including PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, and MySQL.

The ideal candidate should possess a strong foundation in database concepts, SQL, and Linux, along with a keen interest in database administration, performance optimization, and high-availability technologies. You will work closely with experienced database professionals and contribute to database administration, monitoring, backup, maintenance, and automation activities.

Key Skills

  • Basic knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL
  • Good understanding of SQL and relational database concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Basic understanding of database backup and recovery concepts
  • Knowledge of Shell scripting or Python is an added advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Willingness to learn emerging database technologies such as TimescaleDB and ArangoDB

Roles & Responsibilities:

PostgreSQL & TimescaleDB

  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB environments.
  • Support database monitoring, health checks, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Create and manage databases, schemas, users, and permissions under supervision.
  • Assist with database backup, restoration, and recovery procedures.
  • Support performance monitoring and basic SQL query optimization.
  • Learn and work with TimescaleDB features such as hypertables, continuous aggregates, compression, and data retention policies.
  • Maintain technical documentation related to database configurations and operational procedures.

MySQL

  • Assist in provisioning and configuring MySQL database instances.
  • Support routine database administration tasks, including monitoring, optimization, and maintenance.
  • Assist with backup, recovery, and replication activities.
  • Help troubleshoot database-related issues under the guidance of senior DBAs.
  • Contribute to automating routine database administration tasks through scripting.

Learning Exposure

  • Gain practical exposure to database replication, clustering, high availability, and database security.
  • Learn cloud-based database deployment and administration practices.
  • Assist in database migration and performance tuning activities.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to identify and resolve database issues.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 0–1 year of experience in Database Administration, SQL Development, or related areas (internships, academic projects, or certifications are acceptable).
  • Strong understanding of DBMS fundamentals and SQL.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux administration.
  • Passion for learning database technologies and building a career in database engineering.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to PostgreSQL, MySQL, or TimescaleDB through academic projects or internships.
  • Basic knowledge of Git, Docker, or cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Shell scripting or Python.
  • Good analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
