About this role

Company Description

Rate: $65/hour

Commitment: Approximately 88 hours, phased across September and October

Location: Remote, with potential on-site presence Philadelphia

Start: Early September

Our client is a major CPG food company with a portfolio of household-name brands. They've recently built an in-house creative studio to bring ideation and production closer to the brands themselves, and they're growing the creative side of it now.

The team is small, collaborative, and moves quickly. You'd work directly with their content strategy lead, an in-house designer, and a production lead, with access to their own photography studio.

Job Description

We're casting a senior freelance art director to bring a new product launch to life across shopper, social, and digital shelf.

The creative strategy is already complete and it's strong. What's needed now is someone to translate it into a visual system that holds up everywhere the product shows up, from the retail shelf to a TikTok feed.

In this role, you will:

  • Build the campaign key visual and toolkit. A 16:9 master design plus layered files, and the guide that shows how the system flexes. Headlines, color, type, icons, and any campaign lockup. You'll demonstrate how it adapts across a range of retailer banner specs at review. An outside agency handles full versioning, but the direction is yours.
  • Art direct the photography. Product and lifestyle imagery shot in the client's studio. Full product suite plus individual SKUs, in 16:9, 9:16, and 1:1. You'll set the framing and the look so the imagery works across PR, social, website, shopper, and digital shelf, including wide crops with room for supporting copy.
  • Storyboard video. A :15s sponsored brand video for digital shelf, plus animated assets for organic social.
  • Concept social-first. Tease, launch, and sustain creative for organic, plus concepts for paid on Meta and TikTok. Built native to each platform rather than resized from a hero asset.
  • Write short-form copy. Shopper headlines and subheads for the key visual, plus social post copy. You don't need to be a copywriter, but comfort with a punchy line is a plus.
  • Provide oversight. You'll review work coming back from the versioning partner to make sure it holds to the system you built.

How the engagement works. The work is phased, heavier during concepting and the shoot and lighter through the oversight stretch. The process includes an internal tissue session followed by two rounds of stakeholder review before final.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Senior-level art direction experience in CPG, with food and beverage strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated shopper and retail media work. Key visuals, design toolkits, retailer banner specs, and digital shelf
  • Social-first concepting as a core skill, not an adaptation of broadcast or print thinking
  • Experience art directing product and lifestyle photography for a studio shoot
  • Ability to concept fresh ideas while working inside established brand guidelines
  • Hands-on execution. You'll set direction and review versioning, and you'll build a good deal of the work yourself
  • Portfolio required, including at least one example of a key visual and toolkit so we can see how you build a system

Preferred:

  • Experience launching a new product or platform, not only sustaining an existing one
  • Copywriting range for short-form shopper and social lines, also welcome preferred Copywriter partner to support with development of key lines
  • Genuine enthusiasm for food and the category. The strongest work in this space tends to come from people who actually care about it
