Organization's Summary Statement:

The Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration serves as a strategic leader and key advisor, providing oversight of financial planning, budget management, and administrative operations for the academic unit. This role is integral to strategic planning, budgeting, and financial analysis in support of the organization’s mission and long-term goals. The Assistant Dean is a results-driven leader with strong communication skills who fosters collaboration across departments and ensures operational effectiveness.

Example Duties:
● Develop and manage the annual budget aligned with strategic goals.
● Provide financial forecasting and reporting to support data-driven decisions.
● Manage grants, contracts, and endowment funds in accordance with applicable guidelines.
● Lead long-term financial planning and resource allocation strategies.
● Represent the college on university-wide financial and administrative committees.
● Manages a team of professional and support staff.
● Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Twelve (12) years of professional experience in financial planning, budget management, or academic administrative operations. Six (6) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of organizational and unit performance measures.

Knowledge of the impact and implications of decisions on leadership objectives.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in data analytics and negotiation.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Ability to research information and analyze complex data and information to create reports and presentations.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.

Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Additional Job Details

Preferences:

Five years of working knowledge of UMD financial systems
