Job Description:

The Assistant Director evaluates complex financial aid application materials to determine student eligibility for federal, state, and specialized institutional need-based aid. Reporting to the Director, this position is responsible for managing a dedicated caseload of students through recruitment, awarding, and enrollment. The role also serves as a strategic liaison for high-priority campus initiatives (such as early decision and athletics recruiting) while ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates.

 

JOB DUTIES

Caseload Management

  • Provide exceptional financial counseling to prospective and currently enrolled student and their families.
  • Explain university financial policies, payment systems, loan options, and budget planning via phone, email, and in-person meetings.

Need Analysis and Awarding

  • Evaluate aid applications and understand the nuances of federal and institutional methodology and need analysis
  • Formulate tailored, need-based financial aid packages for an assigned student caseload of Graduate and Undergraduate students.
  • Utilize professional judgment to review and adjust aid packages in response to family financial appeals or changed circumstances.

Program Management & Liaison Roles

  • Serve as the dedicated point person and liaison for specific programs (e.g., endowment reporting).
  • Support cross-departmental operations with Admissions, the Registrar, and the Bursar to resolve individual student accounts.

Compliance & Systems Quality Assurance

  • Ensure strict compliance with all Title IV federal regulations, state laws, and institutional standards during verification and the processing of aid.
  • Assist in the testing, auditing, and optimization of financial aid management software. .(e.g., PowerFAIDS)

Training & Mentorship

  • Assist with the ongoing training, professional development, and mentorship of Financial Aid staff.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.●
  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree

EXPERIENCE
Required:
Minimum of 2-4 years of progressive financial aid experience.
Preferred:

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Required:

  • Proficiency with advanced financial aid management systems-specifically PowerFAIDS -and CRM platforms (e.g., Slate) is highly referred.discretion.
  • Knowledge of complete tax documents, superior interpersonal skills to handle high-stress, sensitive financial situations with discretion.
  • Ability to communicate highly complex formulas and legislative policies simply and clearly.
