Job Purpose:
To manage and oversee all taxation‐related activities of the organisation, ensure compliance with statutory regulations (direct & indirect taxes), assist in tax planning, reduce tax risks, co-ordinate with auditors and tax authorities, and support preparation of tax provisions for financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all direct tax returns (income tax, TDS / TCS etc.) and indirect tax returns (GST, Excise, VAT, if applicable).
- Manage compliance for withholding taxes, VAT/GST / e-way bills, etc.
- Coordinate with internal and external teams for tax audits (both direct and indirect).
Tax Planning & Advisory
- Provide inputs for tax planning opportunities in cost saving, incentives, exemptions.
- Interpret tax laws/notifications & advise on their impact on business operations.
- Propose policies/processes to manage tax risk.
Coordination & Dispute Management
- Interface with tax authorities (e.g. GST department, Income Tax department) during assessments, audits, show-cause notices.
- Manage resolution of tax demands / litigation matters.
- Liaise with external tax consultants / legal advisors when needed.
Provisioning, Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare tax provisions / deferred tax calculations for financial statements.
- Maintain accurate records, audit trail, supporting documents for all tax filings and claims.
- Monthly / quarterly reporting of tax liabilities and tax exposures.
System & Process Improvement
- Review and improve internal controls around taxation.
- Ensure tax processes are streamlined, minimize errors / delays.
- Stay updated on tax law changes, implement systems/ERP updates / trainings accordingly.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work with Finance / Accounts teams to ensure tax-related entries, journals etc., are correctly captured in general ledger.
- Support cost / pricing teams with transfer pricing, if applicable.
- Coordinate with Purchase / Import / Export departments for duty, customs, import GST etc.
Team Management
- Supervise / mentor junior tax executives / accountants.
- Delegate tasks, monitor performance, ensure adherence to deadlines.
Skills & Qualification
- Education - Chartered Accountant (CA), or ICWA, or Masters in Commerce with specialisation in taxation is preferred.
- Experience - About 4-7 years of experience in taxation in a manufacturing / industrial setup; prior exposure to both direct & indirect taxes;
- Experience with audits / assessments. Technical Knowledge - Good understanding of GST laws, Income Tax Act, TDS/TCS, customs / import duties, corporate tax, etc.; Knowledge of deferred tax and tax accounting standards.
- Systems / Software Proficiency in ERP / Accounting software; strong Excel skills; ability to work with tax and accounting modules / reconcile tax ledgers.
