About this role

In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and leading packaging engineering processes for new and existing programs while ensuring efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective packaging solutions across the supply chain. You will need to deliver innovative packaging designs, optimize logistics and transportation costs, ensure customer delivery fulfillment, and support cross-functional teams in achieving project timelines and operational excellence.

  • Establishing packaging engineering standards, processes, and best practices across the organization.

  • Leading packaging development activities for new projects while ensuring adherence to project timelines.

  • Designing packaging solutions for supplier-to-plant and plant-to-customer material movement.

  • Collaborating with Quality, SCM, Engineering, Buyers, PMO, Vendors, and Customers across global locations.

  • Developing and implementing cost-effective packaging solutions while maintaining quality and safety requirements.

  • Designing packaging and load configurations considering ergonomics, transportation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Leading sustainable packaging initiatives to reduce scrap generation and improve environmental performance.

  • Developing packaging for incoming raw materials in coordination with sourcing and procurement teams.

  • Managing packaging specification design, validation, testing, and release processes.

  • Creating and maintaining Packaging BOMs, packaging standards, part numbers, and engineering documentation.

  • Driving returnable packaging development, including fleet sizing calculations and container planning.

  • Identifying opportunities for packaging and logistics cost reduction, including reverse logistics optimization.

  • Supporting vendor development activities and evaluating new packaging materials and technologies.

  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives, waste elimination (Muda reduction), and packaging optimization.

  • Preparing Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) and delivering training programs for stakeholders.

  • Designing packaging solutions for dangerous goods while ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitoring project progress and communicating reports, risks, and issues to management.

  • Ensuring on-time delivery and achieving 100% customer delivery fulfillment.

If you have/are:

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Development, or Supply Chain Packaging.

  • Strong knowledge of automotive components and manufacturing processes.

  • Hands-on experience in packaging design, development, testing, and validation.

  • Knowledge of various packaging materials, transportation requirements, and recycling processes.

  • Experience in project management and new product/program launches.

  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.

  • Experience in packaging cost optimization and logistics improvement initiatives.

  • Knowledge of returnable packaging systems and container planning.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional and global teams.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Kannada and Hindi is an advantage.

  • Willingness to travel and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
