About this role
Job Purpose
To prepare, paint, and finish automotive components, prototype vehicles, and fabricated parts while ensuring high-quality surface finish, color consistency, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
- Prepare vehicle bodies, fabricated components, and metal surfaces for painting through cleaning, sanding, masking, and priming.
- Mix paints, hardeners, and thinners according to specifications to achieve the required color and finish.
- Apply primer, base coat, and clear coat using spray painting equipment.
- Perform touch-up painting and refinishing to rectify paint defects and surface imperfections.
- Inspect painted surfaces for quality, color match, gloss, and finish before final approval.
- Operate and maintain spray guns, paint booths, compressors, and related painting equipment.
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for painting and curing processes.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of paints, chemicals, and hazardous materials.
- Coordinate with fabrication, assembly, and quality teams to meet production schedules.
- Maintain cleanliness of the paint booth and work area following 5S practices.
- Adhere to all workplace safety, PPE, and environmental compliance requirements.
Desired Qualifications
Required Qualification
- ITI / Diploma in Automobile, Mechanical, or a related field.
- Certification in Industrial or Automotive Painting is an added advantage.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of automotive paint systems, primers, base coats, clear coats, and finishing techniques.
- Understanding of spray painting equipment and paint mixing ratios.
- Familiarity with surface preparation, masking, sanding, polishing, and buffing.
- Basic knowledge of paint defects and corrective actions.
- Understanding of workplace safety and handling of hazardous chemicals.
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in automobile painting, vehicle refinishing, prototype painting, or industrial painting.
- Experience working with OEMs, automotive manufacturers, or prototype fabrication environments is preferred.
