Azure Database Architect – Remote/Hybrid (Minnesota)
Client: Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT) partnering with the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF)

We are seeking an experienced Azure Database Architect to support the modernization of Minnesota's Child Welfare Information System (CCWIS). The role focuses on designing and implementing Azure-based databases, Data Lakes, and Data Lakehouse solutions while consolidating data from 87 county databases into a centralized Azure data platform. The architect will lead database design, security, performance optimization, disaster recovery, and mentor technical teams throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement Azure Data Lakes, Data Lakehouse, and database solutions.
- Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance data storage environments.
- Develop data models and optimize data access patterns.
- Support data transformation, migration, and Azure cloud integrations.
- Implement backup, disaster recovery, and security strategies.
- Configure and manage Azure SQL databases, managed instances, and elastic pools.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and Azure infrastructure.
- Monitor and optimize database performance using Azure monitoring tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership and mentoring.
Maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with enterprise security standards.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in Data Architecture or Database Management.
- Strong expertise in Azure Data Lakes, Azure SQL, relational and non-relational databases.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks and Oracle Databases.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Monitor, SQL Analytics, Query Performance Insight, Azure Resource Manager, Azure CLI/PowerShell, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of data modeling, schema design, indexing strategies, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with backup/recovery, geo-replication, RBAC, encryption, and network security.
- Familiarity with Teradata Data Warehouse administration is a plus.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and mentoring skills.
