The PayScale Benchmarking Team solves puzzles for our customers. We work to ensure that our customers' positions are benchmarked to the appropriate datasets for their jobs. We are experts in using PayScale’s proprietary crowd and company sourced data along with third party compensation surveys to ensure accurate benchmarking and market pricing for our customers.
What You'll Do
The role facilitates client kick-off calls, independently executes benchmarking projects, and manages complex pricing initiatives to ensure high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction. They assign projects to Benchmarking Specialists I, providing oversight for accuracy and timeliness, while maintaining organized administrative records.
In job pricing, they analyze job descriptions to determine fair pay values and collaborate with U.S.-based teams for consistency. They handle client-specific requests and provide support on urgent benchmarking projects to meet deadlines. Additionally, they lead client communications through emails and video calls, conducting match reviews to validate job pricing and identify improvement areas.
Day-in-the-Life:
Project & Team Management
Client Consultation: Facilitate client kick-off, test batch, match review, and final publishing calls. Apply deep benchmarking knowledge to align standard compensation processes with unique client business needs.
End-to-End Execution: Independently manage and deliver multiple complex pricing projects simultaneously, balancing competing deadlines while maintaining high-quality deliverables.
Team Oversight & Quality Assurance: Assign projects to Benchmarking Specialist I team members based on workload assessments and conduct rigorous quality checks on processed jobs to ensure accuracy.
Project Administration: Maintain project documentation, trackers, and administrative records throughout the project lifecycle, including project setup and maintenance activities such as pay market creation, account reviews, Salesforce updates, report generation, and project closeout.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Customer Success Managers and Compensation Professionals to ensure seamless project execution and client satisfaction.
Market Pricing & Data Analysis (Transactional Benchmarking)
Analyze job descriptions, organizational information, and client-provided data to determine appropriate market matches and compensation values.
Evaluate compensable factors such as scope, complexity, responsibility, experience requirements, and organizational context to support pricing decisions.
Document benchmarking rationale and supporting notes to ensure transparency, consistency, and alignment with established compensation methodologies.
Develop and analyze pay market configurations based on industry, organization size, geography, and other relevant market factors.
Deliver transactional benchmarking requests through Payfactors, MarketPay, and new platforms while ensuring accuracy and methodological consistency.
Client Engagement & Consultation
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout benchmarking engagements, proactively addressing inquiries, requests, and support issues while delivering a high level of customer service.
Manage client communications through professional email correspondence and virtual meetings.
Present benchmarking methodologies, pricing recommendations, and project findings in a clear and consultative manner.
Conduct match review sessions with clients to validate job matches, review pricing outcomes, address concerns, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Potentially conduct benchmarking analyses for prospective clients to support business development and sales initiatives.
Reporting, Process Improvement & Team Support
Create and maintain Salesforce reports, dashboards, and project-tracking tools to support operational visibility and decision-making.
Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs), process guides, and training materials to improve team efficiency and consistency.
Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and workflow optimization.
Provide support on urgent, high-priority, or complex benchmarking projects to ensure successful project delivery.
Training & Mentorship
Train and onboard new Benchmarking team members on benchmarking methodologies, tools, processes, and best practices.
Provide ongoing coaching, knowledge sharing, and subject matter expertise to support team development and performance.
