About this role

When you order a package on Amazon, Last Mile Operations is in charge of the final delivery to your home. Central Operations' mandate is to centralize all tasks that can be centralized across Japan's 200+ last mile node network. Thanks to CO, tasks can be standardized, optimized and automated, resulting in better delivery experience for customers, at a lower cost. Strategically, the team allows JP Ops to grow by double digits every year, without increasing complexity and cost at the same rate.

We are looking for a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer to drive the use of AI and automation in analytics, powering executive-level decision making for Central Operations. In this role you will define and implement scalable data solutions, diving deep into operational metrics across capacity planning, forecasting, and real-time delivery execution. You will apply both business and technical acumen in a fast-paced, ambiguous, and innovative environment where your work directly impacts millions of daily customer deliveries.

Key job responsibilities
Design and build AI-powered analytics tools that derive actionable insights from large-scale last mile operational data spanning 200+ delivery stations, capacity management systems, and forecasting platforms
Own the design and development of the team's BI architecture: automated pipelines, self-service dashboards, and scalable data models that support intraweek planning and real-time execution monitoring
Drive continuous improvement of analytical processes by automating manual reporting, scaling self-service access, and simplifying insight delivery for operational stakeholders across multiple functions
Architect data solutions for new business initiatives, ensuring analytics foundations are reusable and scalable from day one
Define metrics frameworks, anomaly detection mechanisms, and feedback loops that surface operational risks and opportunities to leadership through business reviews and real-time alerting
Recognize and adopt best practices in BI engineering: data integrity, data modelling, test design, validation, documentation, and operational excellence
Mentor and develop junior engineers, conduct technical assessments, and influence BI best practices across partner teams in the organization

Basic Qualifications

- 8+ years of as a Data Analyst, Data Engineer, Business Intelligence Analyst, or a related occupation experience
- Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
- Experience with AWS technologies
- Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling
- Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining
- Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience communicating complex information and solutions to senior stakeholders and influencing decisions
- Speak, write, and read fluently in English

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
- Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
- Experience working as a BIE in a technology company
- Master's degree in statistics, data science, or an equivalent quantitative field
- Speak, write, and read fluently in Japanese
