The Business Risk Manager (BRM) plays a critical role within the 1st Line of Defence (1LoD) in supporting the respective Region and/or Market in managing and monitoring risk across the entire client lifecycle. The BRM’s key responsibilities include providing risk-related counselling to Front Management, supporting risk-related approvals, facilitating stakeholder collaboration (between the three lines of defence) and driving risk-related initiatives across the Bank.

The role requires experience in understanding regulatory requirements, business needs, and risk management principles to drive informed decision-making and mitigate potential risks.

YOUR CHALLENGE

Risk Framework and Business Risk Management

  • Collaborates with 1st, 2nd (2LoD), and 3rd Lines of Defence (3LoD) and other stakeholders to ensure effective risk management.
  • Prepares and delivers business risk assessment, risk/conduct and control results reporting to provide transparency to the Front Management through risk/conduct sessions.
  • Facilitates Front Management in supervisory oversight and in addressing risks, regulatory and quality assurance concerns.
  • Maintains close collaboration with Group Heads (GHs) and Team Business Managers (Team BMs) regarding risk-related tasks within respective Regions/Markets, including conducting regular exchange sessions with GHs and Team BMs to foster exemplary risk/conduct culture and highest quality standards.
  • Supports risk-related approvals in accordance with the relevant Approval & Delegation Matrix.

Risk/Control Assessment and Monitoring

  • Ensures performance of the required risk/control assessments and reviews within 1LoD.
  • Supports thematic and business specific risk reviews, where required.
  • Follows up with the Front (e.g., Relationship Managers (RMs) and Assistant Relationship Managers (ARMs)) on recurring tasks or overdue items.
  • Escalations of risks and control issues to the Front Management and/or 2LoD, where required.

Remediation, Projects and Other Support

  • Monitors and supports remediation of risks, incidents and control issues, ensuring timely and sustainable resolution of Front-related gaps as identified by 2LoD, internal/external auditors and regulators.
  • Supports “lessons learnt” management, risk trainings, risk/conduct culture awareness campaigns and communication within the Front.
  • Provides risk/control-related support and advice for projects, change and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates with other BRMs and interacts with various internal stakeholders (e.g. compliance, legal, etc.), depending on the topic.

Professional and Technical

  • University degree or equivalent education, preferably in Banking and/or Finance
  • At least 7 years of professional experience in Business Risk Management, Non-Financial Risk / Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance or Audit in Wealth Management/Private Banking
  • Proven track record in fostering sound risk/conduct culture in Wealth Management/Private Banking is an advantage
  • Understanding of key business risks pertaining to Wealth Management/Private Banking, with experience in the relevant risk/control assessment & management
  • Sound knowledge in the field of Compliance, preferably in Hong Kong/Singapore
  • Project Management know how and experience is an advantage
  • Strong ability to interact with senior management, build trusted partnerships, deliver sound opinion and present solutions
  • Strong people skills with the ability to set and prioritise objectives and tasks
  • Good command of spoken and written Chinese and English
