Carpenter (Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm, RDO: Sat-Sun)FUNCTION:Under the supervision of Facilities Services managers, performs the duties normally associated with the structural trade of carpenter following recognized journeyman procedures, means, methods and quality performance.
Job Description:
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reads plans and specifications, makes sketches and constructs carpentry items from such design details;
- Makes detailed material lists, estimates labor, requisitions materials, maintains inventory and restocks supplies;
- Repairs, replaces, constructs and installs partitions, sheetrock walls and ceilings, doors, windows, acoustic ceilings, shelves, and other items of wood, composites and plastics;
- Constructs, assembles, repairs and maintains metal, wood and composite cabinets, closets, benches, furniture, other wood articles;
- Installs floor boards and coverings such as vinyl tile and cove base;
- Replaces glass in windows and doors;
- Installs, disassembles and repairs modular furniture units including wall systems, maintains parts inventory;
- Constructs, installs, repairs and maintains miscellaneous items such as bulletin boards, chalkboards, bathroom accessories, shades, window blinds, other window treatments, picture frames, Commencement type platforms and office accessories;
- Refinishes furniture including reupholstering;
- Performs locksmith functions of installing and repairing cylinders and cores, repairing door hardware, cutting keys;
- Will have oversight duties when assisted by mechanics or helpers and when directed to interface with outside contractors;
- Uses and maintains hand tools, power equipment's such as saws, jointer, drill press, tool grinders, other carpentry finishing agents including paints, stains and other surface applicants;
- Records time, and material on each work order as well as other relevant information;
- Maintains clean, orderly and safe work area;
- Observes all necessary safety rules and procedures in performance of duties;
- Performs other related and emergency duties as requested by supervisor;
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Trade or vocational school graduate or graduate of a certified approved apprenticeship program
- Five year’s minimum related work experience
- Proficient in all hand and power tools and equipment common to the trade
- Knowledge of wood types and their characteristics, and uses of paints and stains
- Ability to read diagrams, blueprints and specifications
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Appropriate licenses or be able to obtain same within three months of employment or governmental requirement
- Valid automobile drivers license
- Physically fit to carry tools, equipment and materials, work overhead on ladders, in cramped and crowded spaces as well as during inclement weather.
- Candidates for this position must be willing to work overtime and be available to do so on a reasonable basis.
|$45.95/hour regular rate - $40.46/hr probationary rate
There is a 180 day probationary period
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
