Our Merchandise team works with supplier partners and store teams on category ranging, buying, pricing and promotions so we can get the right products on the right shelves at the right time for our customers. 

Te Tūranga – About the role 

As a Category Manager for Deli and Meal Solutions, you’ll be responsible for the strategic implementation of a range of products across our stores such as store made meals, hot chickens, ready made pizzas and Simply Dinner meal kits to name a few.  You’ll provide expert knowledge across your Category working closely with our Owner/Operators, influencing and engaging with plans, collaborating with supply partners, driving sales and performance whilst also leading and coaching a team. 

To achieve this, some of what you’ll do is: 

  • Run your category as a strategic business unit, delivering on financial targets and using customer insights to unlock growth. 

  • Plan, organise and operate the category, align priorities with overall company strategy and create & deliver goals, measures and transformation. 

  • Manage the administration within the category - including pricing, range changes, promotions, discontinuations, New Product Development (NPD) and regulatory compliance.   

  • Review promotion effectiveness, analyse, negotiate, and inform any changes are required to the remaining planned promotions.  

  • Collaboratively innovate Meal Kit NPD under the FSNI brand: Simply Dinner.  Maintain costings and support inventory procurement and management alongside the Supplier partner(s).

He kōrero mōu – About you 

Passionate about food, you could be working in the food service industry, armed with knowledge of how a commercial kitchen works and experience from being in the office, costing recipes to being on the tools.  With a commercial mind-set you’ll also be entrepreneurial with proven experience in planning and strategy execution.  

 Key to your success in the role will also include:  

  • A solid understanding of market trends and influences, both within New Zealand and globally with a drive to continuously stay ahead of the game.   

  • Prior experience in the Deli and Meal Solutions Categories is preferred although not essential. 

  • Very strong problem solving and decision-making skills. 

  • Excellent planning and communication skills with the ability to collaborate and clearly articulate ideas/concepts and effectively present to others.
