Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system.
We've raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber.
We're building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.
This role provides specialist civil engineering across our UK utility-scale solar PV, wind, BESS (standalone and co-located), gas-peaking and data centre portfolio, from early development through construction, commissioning and handover to operations. Acting as the technical authority for civil engineering, you'll provide design assurance, constructability input and technical governance across EPC contractors and civil design partners. It reports to the Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Act as the civil engineering subject matter expert across all infrastructure projects, providing technical leadership on earthworks, drainage, access roads, foundations, cable routes and site infrastructure
- Review and approve civil engineering designs from EPCs, consultants and contractors, ensuring works are safe, buildable, cost-effective and standards-compliant
- Provide technical challenge to optimise design solutions, constructability and long-term asset performance
- Review civil deliverables (drawings, calculations, reports, specifications) and ensure compliance with UK standards, planning requirements and project specifications
- Identify and mitigate design risks, ground-condition challenges and cross-discipline interface issues, and keep civil design standards consistent across the portfolio
- Provide civil engineering input from early development through construction and commissioning, supporting the EPC interface (RFIs, TQs, design clarifications)
- Support site teams during civil construction (earthworks, drainage, roads, foundations), oversee inspections and quality checks, and resolve on-site issues
- Support punch-list close-out, as-built validation and handover to Asset Management
- Interface with EPC contractors, subcontractors, consultants and independent engineers; support technical due diligence and lender advisory; act as escalation point for complex issues

- Experience reviewing civil engineering drawings, designs, and technical documentation
- Strong knowledge of constructability, site logistics, and ground engineering principles
- Ability to critically assess and challenge EPC and consultant design outputs
- Exposure to construction site environments and delivery phases
- Strong understanding of UK civil engineering standards, safety, and compliance requirements
