About this role

About FirstSteps

The FirstSteps Team is inspired by the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential. To that end, our mission is twofold: to provide the best evidence-based, behavior analytic treatment to our children diagnosed with autism and related learning differences, and to offer a positive, collaborative, and dynamic work experience for our team. We are steadfastly committed to ongoing training and mentorship of our employees, always motivated to support the next generation of clinical leaders in our field and at FirstSteps. Our greatest reward is witnessing the rapid and joyful learning of our little ones and knowing that together, we are creating more happy days for the kids and families we serve.

CNA or professional caregiver? Walnut Creek | $23-$25/hour clinical wage after paid training. Bring your calm, compassion, and hands-on care skills to one-on-one work with children with autism. No ABA experience is required. You will need experience with children, reliable transportation, and availability for two weeks of full-time onsite training.

TRADE CALL LIGHTS FOR MILESTONES

You already know how to notice small changes, stay steady when someone is frustrated, protect dignity, and follow a care plan. At FirstSteps, you will use those strengths to teach communication, social, self-care, and school-readiness skills. The work is active and personal - floor play, movement, toileting support, careful data collection, and plenty of repetition. One child at a time. Progress you can see.

WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE

  • Paid, full-time onsite training and ongoing coaching from BCBAs and clinical leaders
  • Support earning your RBT credential; FirstSteps covers initial credentialing fees
  • Full-time and part-time opportunities after training
  • For eligible employees: health insurance support, 401(k) match, PTO, tuition discounts, and compensation for drive time, mileage, and data

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Experience with children through work, school, caregiving, coaching, or volunteering
  • High school diploma or equivalent; college enrollment or degree preferred
  • Current driver's license and regular access to a reliable vehicle
  • Ability to complete Livescan, TB, and immunization requirements promptly
  • Comfort supporting hygiene/toileting and ability to lift 50 lbs, work on the floor, and move quickly for safety

If you became a CNA or caregiver because you wanted to help people, this is a chance to help a child reach a first word, first friend, or first independent skill.
