About this role

About Prairie Landworks:

We are a small but growing company that specializes in crafting complete solutions in general, commercial, industrial, and civil building and other critical infrastructure projects. We don't just build to plan and spec; we create projects with character and integrity, delivering the quality we would expect if we were building for ourselves. Teamwork, optimism, and hard work are at the heart of everything we do to improve lives through construction in our communities.  We are searching for a proven Commercial Driver that exemplifies our Company values of Grit, Safety, Integrity, Relationships and Accountability and can help build our Team culture.

How you'll get to contribute:

This role involves transporting heavy equipment and materials to and from job sites, operating a variety of vehicle types, and occasionally supporting field crews when not driving. The ideal candidate has experience with construction logistics, CDL driving, and load securement practices.

What you'll get to do:
  • Key Responsibilities to Achieve Operational Excellence
  • Operate a variety of commercial vehicles, including dump trucks, water trucks, lowboys, flatbeds, roll-offs, pickups with trailers, and service trucks.
  • Transport equipment (e.g., excavators, skid steers, compaction equipment) and materials (e.g., pipe, rebar, spoils, aggregates) between PLi job sites.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and ensure roadworthiness and cleanliness.
  • Maintain safe operation in all weather and road conditions.
  •  Assist with site support tasks when not driving, including material handling, fueling, or general labor as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Follow all company and DOT safety protocols and procedures.
  • Represent PLi professionally with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Key Expectations and Physical Requirements
  • Maintain consistently high safety standards, regulatory compliance and superior project outcomes by taking full ownership of work assigned.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders by providing exceptional service and addressing concerns proactively.
  • Must be able to lift and secure heavy chains, tarps, and binders (up to 75 lbs).
  • Frequent climbing, bending, and exposure to outdoor elements.
  • Work is performed in and out of commercial vehicles and on active construction sites must be safety aware at all times.
About you:
  •  Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A) with Air Brake endorsement.
(Note: Class A allows operation of vehicles with a combined weight over 26,001 lbs and trailers over 10,000 lbs — required for most construction hauls.)
  •  Clean driving record
  • Strong knowledge of load securement procedures and practices.
  • Able to safely operate and maneuver trailers and large equipment on job sites and public roads.
  • Experience operating loading equipment (skid steer, forklift) is a plus but not required.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of relevant construction trucking experience preferred.
  • You have the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving record check.
  • You're authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
What’s in it for you:
  • Variety
  • We’re in a strong manufacturing, oil, and gas industrial marketplace, so there's plenty of work and opportunity here
  • If you dislike the grind of repetitive projects, you'll get to work on a mix of projects from building construction and civil work to industrial piping, landscaping, planning, concrete, dirt work, utilities, water infrastructure, and negotiated & alternative delivery building work.
  • Balance
Don't mistake variety for overwhelm. We want to have a work-life balance that is sustainable for all employees.
  • 3 weeks PTO to start plus 7.5 paid holidays, birthday paid off after 1 year of service
  • Early Fridays
  • Our target market is within a 90-mile radius so that we can be home nightly with rare exceptions.
  • Our travel work is rare and typically short duration. We’re not chasing travel work until we get systems operating like a well-oiled machine.
  • Well-Being/Financial
  • Salary commensurate with experience hourly pay ranges from $20 to $28
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • 401K / 401K Roth plan after 6 months of employment with 4% company match on 4% employee contribution
  • Boot allowance after 1 year of service
  • Supplemental voluntary benefits (i.e., cancer coverage, critical illness, life insurance, accident coverage, etc...)

We are an equal-opportunity employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected status. We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our workplace and creating an environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and supported. We comply with all applicable laws governing EEO and affirmative action, and we ensure that all employment decisions are made solely based on job-related qualifications and merit.
