Team Overview

The Transaction Monitoring & Screening team forms part of Visa Cross-Border Solutions Financial Crime Operations function. The team is responsible for detecting, investigating and escalating potential financial crime risk across customer activity, payments and transactions.

Through transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and financial crime investigations, the team helps protect Visa Cross-Border Solutions from money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions exposure, fraud and other financial crime threats while supporting safe and compliant money movement globally.

Role Purpose

As a Compliance Analyst, you will investigate complex financial crime alerts and customer activity across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and related control environments.

You will make risk-based decisions, assess higher-risk scenarios, support escalation processes and provide coaching and guidance to junior team members.

The role requires strong analytical judgement, technical expertise and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly to stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate complex financial crime alerts, customer activity and higher-risk scenarios across real-time screening and retrospective monitoring activity.

  • Analyse transactional behaviour, velocity, corridors, counterparties, customer risk indicators, sanctions exposure and financial crime typologies.

  • Assess potential money laundering, terrorist financing, sanctions, fraud and other financial crime risks using a risk-based approach.

  • Review evidence from multiple systems, RFI responses, supporting documentation and external sources to support investigation outcomes.

  • Prepare detailed investigation narratives that clearly set out evidence, judgement, escalation rationale and recommended outcome.

  • Support suspicious activity escalation processes and potential sanctions exposure reviews by identifying relevant red flags and evidence.

  • Provide technical coaching and guidance to Associates on investigation approach, alert disposition, documentation quality and escalation standards.

  • Participate in quality assurance, calibration, thematic reviews and control effectiveness activity.

  • Identify recurring false-positive drivers, typology themes, operational risks, process gaps and control enhancement opportunities.

  • Contribute to monitoring rule optimisation, screening effectiveness reviews, typology development and operational readiness for new controls.

  • Support audit, governance, regulatory, client and senior stakeholder requests by providing accurate case context and operational insight.

  • Partner with Compliance, Product, Technology and Operations stakeholders on improvements to financial crime controls.

  • Maintain current knowledge of sanctions developments, AML typologies, fraud risk indicators and regulatory expectations.

We are currently operating a hybrid working policy, with the expectation being 3 days per week in the Warsaw office.

Qualifications

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Experience within AML, financial crime investigations, transaction monitoring, sanctions compliance or related risk-based compliance operations.

  • Strong financial crime risk assessment capability and ability to interpret complex transaction activity.

  • Excellent investigation, written communication and case narrative skills.

  • Ability to make sound risk-based decisions using complex or incomplete information and explain decision rationale clearly.

  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy, prioritisation and risk discipline.

  • Experience coaching, mentoring or supporting junior colleagues.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • ACAMS, ICA, sanctions or equivalent financial crime qualification.

  • Experience within payments, fintech, banking, e-money or cross-border financial services.

  • Knowledge of AML typologies, sanctions frameworks, ownership and control concepts, PEP screening, adverse media, fraud risk indicators and regulatory expectations.

  • Experience supporting QA, calibration, process improvement, audit, governance or control effectiveness reviews.

  • Experience contributing to rule refinement, false-positive reduction, typology development or operational readiness activity.
