About this role

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Controller to lead and oversee our Managed Accounting Services (MAS) department. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of client engagements, supervising accounting staff, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, and serving as a strategic advisor to business clients across a variety of industries.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical accounting expertise, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple client relationships in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.


Key Responsibilities

Client Accounting & Advisory

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for multiple client engagements, including:

o General ledger management

o Month-end and year-end close

o Financial statement preparation

o Cash flow management

o Budgeting and forecasting

o Account reconciliations

• Review and analyze financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.

• Serve as the primary financial contact and trusted advisor for assigned clients.

• Provide strategic insights and recommendations to help clients improve financial performance and operational efficiency.

• Assist clients with process improvement, internal controls, and accounting system optimization.


Team Leadership & Management

• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff within the Managed Accounting Services team.

• Review work performed by staff accountants and senior accountants to ensure quality and timeliness.

• Manage workflow, project deadlines, and client deliverables across multiple engagements.

• Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.


Operational Excellence

• Develop and maintain standardized accounting procedures and best practices.

• Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Collaborate with tax and advisory teams to deliver integrated client solutions.

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and technology solutions.

• Participate in business development activities, including client onboarding and relationship expansion.


Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within public accounting, outsourced accounting, or client advisory services.

• Prior experience supervising accounting teams and managing client relationships.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.

• Proficiency with accounting software platforms such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Xero, or similar systems.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
