Ames Federal is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Crusher Mechanic to join our crushing operations team. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting crushing and screening equipment to ensure maximum operational uptime, production efficiency, and safe working conditions. The ideal candidate will have experience working with heavy industrial equipment and possess strong mechanical troubleshooting skills in demanding outdoor environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on crushers, conveyors, screens, feeders, and related aggregate processing equipment.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Inspect crushing equipment daily to identify wear, damage, or potential failures and recommend corrective action.
  • Replace and repair components including bearings, belts, rollers, motors, pulleys, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assist equipment operators with machine adjustments and operational troubleshooting.
  • Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders accurately and timely.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed to support production schedules.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and operations personnel to prioritize maintenance activities and equipment repairs.
  • Follow all applicable federal, state, and company safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing crushing, screening, or heavy industrial equipment.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems, conveyors, bearings, and mechanical power transmission components.
  • Ability to interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and diagnostic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and equipment reliability.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and equipment structures.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally more with assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery, dust, vibration, and noise while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aggregate, mining, quarry, or material processing operations.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and equipment inspection procedures.
  • Ability to operate mobile equipment such as loaders, skid steers, or telehandlers.
