Data Product & Quality Specialist
About this role
As a Data Product & Quality Specialist at AFS, you will act as the primary quality and testing authority for data products, bridging the gap between the engineering team and data consumers.
The work:
- Lead quality assurance and testing for data products, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with metadata and requirements.
- Develop and execute test plans for data pipelines, APIs, and data products, validating data discoverability and accessibility through available interfaces.
- Advise Department of the Air Force data domains on designing and building data products, including metadata standards, SLAs/SLOs, quality expectations, and availability requirements.
- Help data domains define and apply data‑product quality standards and use AFB tools to clean, transform, and refine raw data into usable products.
- Support adoption of the Data Mesh ecosystem, helping consumers understand and leverage data products and enabling tools.
- Use cataloging and metadata solutions—including automated tagging tools and enterprise platforms such as Databricks, Collibra, Snowflake, and Palantir—to support creation and validation of data products.
- Create and maintain user‑facing documentation, tutorials, and onboarding guides.
- Gather feedback from consumers and mission partners to drive continuous improvement of data products and the platform.
Here’s what you need:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain a Top Secret
- Strong experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman), data catalog interfaces, and data validation techniques.
- Familiarity with SQL and scripting languages such as Python for data analysis and validation.
- Experience in data quality assurance, software testing, and writing technical documentation.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to understand data from both technical and mission‑user perspectives.
- Excellent communication skills for translating consumer needs into actionable technical feedback for development teams.
- Familiarity with enterprise data platforms used by the Department of the Air Force, including Databricks, Collibra, Snowflake, and Palantir, particularly in the context of creating and managing data products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting or advocating for data‑mesh principles within an enterprise or government environment.
- Prior involvement advising stakeholders or data domains on the design and lifecycle of data products.
- Hands‑on experience helping users understand and adopt data‑platform tools for data cleaning, enrichment, and transformation.
- Experience working with automated metadata tagging solutions or data governance tooling.
- Background in collaborating with mission partners or early adopters to iterate platform improvements.
This position is hybrid with 3 days’ onsite required in Suitland, MD.

The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below.
