Deputy Chief Manager – Mechanical / Civil Projects
Job Description
The Dy. Chief Manager – Mechanical / Civil Projects will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing mechanical and civil engineering activities for Greenfield and Brownfield pharmaceutical and API projects. The role involves managing engineering design reviews, contractor execution, equipment installation, construction supervision, project monitoring, and compliance with GMP, EHS, and statutory requirements to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
1. Project Execution & Coordination
- Execute mechanical and civil project activities from concept through commissioning.
- Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders for project implementation.
- Monitor project schedules, resources, and progress against approved timelines.
- Ensure completion of assigned projects within budget, quality, and schedule requirements.
- Support project planning, estimation, and budgeting activities.
2. Mechanical Engineering
- Review and monitor installation of reactors, tanks, pressure vessels, piping systems, utility equipment, and material handling systems.
- Participate in equipment selection, vendor evaluation, technical bid reviews, and FAT/SAT activities.
- Ensure compliance with design specifications, GMP requirements, and engineering standards.
- Coordinate commissioning and performance testing of mechanical systems.
- Support troubleshooting during installation and startup activities.
3. Civil & Structural Engineering
- Supervise construction activities including buildings, foundations, roads, drains, pipe racks, utility corridors, and infrastructure works.
- Review civil drawings, BOQs, structural layouts, and contractor submissions.
- Ensure construction quality as per approved drawings, specifications, and project standards.
- Monitor contractor productivity, material utilization, and work progress.
- Coordinate with architects and structural consultants for timely issue resolution.
4. Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure implementation of EHS requirements at project sites.
- Participate in risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and safety audits.
- Monitor contractor compliance with safety regulations and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure all construction and installation activities comply with GMP, statutory, and corporate requirements.
- Support regulatory inspections and compliance audits.
5. Contractor & Vendor Management
- Monitor contractor performance, productivity, and resource deployment.
- Verify contractor bills, measurement sheets, and work completion certifications.
- Coordinate with procurement for timely material and equipment delivery.
- Ensure contractual obligations are fulfilled by contractors and suppliers.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly project progress reports.
- Maintain project documentation, drawings, change controls, and engineering records.
- Track project risks, delays, and mitigation plans.
- Present project status updates during management review meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Project Management certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
- 12–18 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, API, chemical, or industrial projects.
- Experience in execution of Greenfield and Brownfield projects.
- Hands-on experience in construction management, equipment installation, and utility projects.
- Exposure to GMP-compliant manufacturing facilities preferred.
- Familiarity with project planning and scheduling tools.
Technical Skills
- Mechanical equipment installation and commissioning.
- Civil construction and infrastructure development.
- Knowledge of P&IDs, equipment layouts, GA drawings, and civil/structural drawings.
- Understanding of HVAC, utilities, piping, and industrial construction practices.
- AutoCAD and MS Project knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of GMP, EHS, and regulatory requirements.
