Job Description

The Development Manager, Events & Operations supports and executes the Advancement department’s systems, events, centralized gift recognition and stewardship activities, and key cross-team projects, including the annual report and cyclical appeals. Equal parts event producer and operations engine, this role enables the Advancement team to work efficiently through strong planning, organization, service, and follow-through across New Jersey and Miami.

Key Responsibilities

Event Planning

  • Plan and execute a high volume of development events in New Jersey and Miami that contribute to annual revenue goals, from ribbon cuttings and board meetings to the annual 300-person gala
  • Partner with the Chief Growth & Advancement Officer and State Managing Directors of Development on event concepts, goals, solicitations, and planning priorities
  • Create and manage overlapping production and project plans with clear responsibilities, tasks, and deadlines
  • Oversee venues, contracts, budgets, staffing, menus, floor plans, seating, transportation, signage, décor, lighting, programming, and photography
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with staff, donors, vendors, and partners
  • Monitor and evaluate event outcomes and recommend improvements

Donor Stewardship & Recognition

  • Support centralized stewardship and recognition activities, including volunteer tutoring, plaques, thank-you gifts, and handwritten notes
  • Support centralized appeals through email and postal mail
  • Serve as the Advancement team’s liaison with Marketing/Communications for the year-end annual report and other cross-team projects

Operations

  • Complete gift entry, acknowledgement, collection, and reconciliation activities in Raiser’s Edge
  • Support teamwide data-entry initiatives to maintain a complete and accurate donor database
  • Support management of departmental expenses, subscriptions, and account tracking
  • Provide logistical support for departmental meetings, retreats, and cross-team projects, including scheduling, agendas, note-taking, and team communication
  • Support frontline fundraisers with donor research, meeting preparation and follow-up, and activity logging
  • Complete other administrative and operational tasks in support of teamwide goals and initiatives

Qualifications

Skills

  • Project management, organization, and meticulous attention to detail
  • Event and program planning from concept through completion
  • Vendor and partner coordination, contract negotiation, and relationship management
  • Budget development, expense tracking, and financial reporting
  • Strong written and verbal communication across a wide range of audiences
  • Proficiency with productivity and database software; Raiser’s Edge experience is strongly preferred

Abilities

  • Manage multiple projects, competing deadlines, and shifting priorities without losing attention to detail
  • Delegate and coordinate work across peers and external stakeholders while maintaining accountability
  • Anticipate needs and respond promptly with a calm, service-oriented approach
  • Troubleshoot effectively under time pressure in fast-moving, deadline-driven environments

Additional Information

Location

This is a hybrid role. At this time, we typically work on-site 2 days per week and work remotely 3 days per week. Therefore, this role requires teammates to live within commuting distance of one of the three cities within which we work: Newark, NJ, Camden, NJ, or Miami, FL. Candidates who can work from one of our New Jersey offices will be given preference for this role.

Compensation & Benefits

KIPP Team & Family offers a market-competitive salary range of $90,000-$110,000. Salary ranges at KIPP are set based upon the role level and function using benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector and allow for growth within the role.  Individual compensation within this range will be set  based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to: relevant professional experience and qualifications; education, skills and training; and market conditions.
