Please Note: This is a temporary position, ending on or before August 27, 2027, with the possibility of extension.
This is advanced technical work performed in support of instructional departments and related programs at NAIT. Responsibilities include complex repair, maintenance, and calibration of diverse and sophisticated laboratory and test equipment. Employees assess and recommend acceptance of new equipment based on unit specifications and instructional requirements. The work frequently involves designing, fabricating, adapting, and modifying equipment and processes for use in instructional laboratories and demonstration experiments, including determining experimental limits and calculating design parameters.
Employees may coordinate or supervise others when tasks require collective effort.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in maintenance and calibration of lab/clinic equipment
Ensure lab safety
Ensure the work area is in safe and clean condition
Liaise with other programs when required
Procure, prepare, setup and dismantle lab exercises
Assist with maintaining Standard Operating Procedures and safety manuals when required
Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure laboratory success
Set up and take down of laboratory resources and equipment as required
Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate equipment/instrumentation to manufacturers’ standards in compliance with program specifications
Maintain accurate records of, and communicate all maintenance service calls and follow-up
Provide advanced operating, troubleshooting, and maintenance support to the programs
Perform quality control procedures
Assist in the ordering and sourcing of supplies and expendable items, and maintain related inventory records
Actively participate in business plan objectives as identified by the institute and school
Utilize regular feedback to identify and implement improvements
Engage in professional development activities
Attend staff and committee meetings

Knowledge of computers and use of Microsoft suite of programs
Ability to lift 20-45lbs unassisted
Ability to stand and walk for 7.25 hours
Ability to physically perform standard Respiratory Therapy work
Ability to work flexible hours and assignments
A solid working knowledge of clinical settings, safety standards, and equipment operations and maintenance in the Respiratory Therapy field.
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12
Diploma in a health-related field, Respiratory Therapy diploma preferred
2 - 5 years of related diversified industry experience recommended
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
Classification - Educational Laboratory Technologist III
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
Remuneration Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Note: Remuneration for part-time positions will be pro-rated based on FTE (full-time equivalent).
