Essential Job Functions:
Provides direct literacy support for students in Grades K-3 in a small group setting
Collaborates with Literacy Specialist or designee to develop support models for students
Supports differentiation strategies in reading, writing, and spelling
Provides feedback on student progress to Literacy Specialist or designee
Teaches explicit skills to improve literacy outcomes
Provides students positive and constructive feedback
Performs other duties as assigned
Budgetary Responsibility:
This position has no budgetary responsibilities.
Report Preparation:
This position will prepare various reports related to literacy and student progress, as requested.
Equipment Operation:
Uses standard office equipment and equipment related to education and assigned area
Contacts:
This position has regular contact with all levels of Chesterfield County Public Schools (CCPS) personnel, students, and parents/guardians.
Work Direction/Supervision:
This position does not supervise or provide work direction to other positions.
Decision Making:
This position performs the majority of essential job functions independently, and seeks guidance and feedback from the Literacy Specialist or designee. Additionally, the position consults the supervisor as needed with unusual or complex needs.
Formal Policy-Setting Responsibilities:
This position has no formal policy-setting responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone. Physical agility to lift up to 25 lbs. bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead.
Work Environment:
The employee regularly works in a public school or office setting. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of literacy, of school board policies and procedures, and of In-School Suspension (ISS) regulations and practices
Demonstrated ability to tutor and supervise students, particularly in a disciplinary setting, and to effectively handle sensitive and challenging situations involving students
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and staff, and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility without direct supervision, to prioritize work, and to follow oral and written instructions
Bachelor’s Degree and/or Valid Virginia Teaching License.
Preferred: Teaching or tutoring experience
