Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc, a world-class manufacturer of industrial lift trucks, has an outstanding opportunity for an exceptional and talented Electrical Engineer I-II based at our Counterbalanced Development Center in Portland, Oregon.
We’re looking for an energetic individual who will have a positive influence on the Electrical and Controls Test team. As an engineer for this team, you will participate in supporting a wide variety of research and development activities across multiple functional groups.
Level placement is based on experience, technical expertise, and scope of responsibility.
What you will do:
Support day-to-day engineering and validation activities for electrical and controls systems across prototype and development vehicles, including electric vehicle performance, internal combustion vehicle systems, on-board systems, electrical components, vehicle networks, and software validation.
Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and validation activities to confirm vehicle, system, and component performance against design requirements, quality standards, reliability expectations, and customer needs.
Coordinate hands-on testing in lab, vehicle, and development environments, including preparing test setups, supporting instrumentation, troubleshooting issues, and documenting test progress.
Review and analyze test data to identify performance trends, system issues, or opportunities for improvement, then communicate findings through clear verbal updates, written reports, and recommendations.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, and aftermarket teams to support product development, resolve technical concerns, and ensure designs are ready for successful release and customer use.

What you will need:
Engineer I
Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with control system focus.
Experience: A new graduate or limited professional experience.
Engineer II
Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with control system focus.
Experience: 1-2 years of engineering experience and/or 2 internships (e.g., MECOP).
Skills, Experience & Abilities
Engineer I
Basic knowledge of electrical components, circuits, control theory, electric motor drives, power electronics, inverters, and battery management systems.
Familiarity with real-time control networks used in vehicle, mobile equipment, or automotive-style machine applications.
Basic understanding of control system design and architecture, including embedded electronic hardware, software, and system integration.
Ability to support electrical and controls validation activities by reviewing test data, troubleshooting system issues, and documenting findings.
Working knowledge of vehicle systems, components, and electrical/software interfaces used in product development and testing environments.
Engineer II – Additional
Basic knowledge of vehicle, automotive, or industrial technology, including manufacturing processes, design and testing experience, and standard test practices and procedures.
Basic understanding of real-time control networks used to operate vehicle, automotive, or industrial equipment in global applications.
