About this role

Job Purpose

The Electrical Executive / Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant electrical systems and equipment.

The role provides technical support for maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability improvement, projects, and plant shutdown activities. The position also ensures electrical systems comply with safety requirements, statutory regulations, and company standards.

The role covers:

  • Incoming power supply and electrical distribution systems
  • Transformers
  • High-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) switchgear
  • Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
  • Motors and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)
  • Protection relays and control systems
  • UPS and DC systems
  • Earthing and lightning protection systems
  • Electrical heat tracing systems
  • Building electrical installations
  • Power monitoring and communication systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical focal point for electrical systems within the assigned plant area.
  • Support maintenance activities, troubleshooting, testing, commissioning, and equipment reinstatement.
  • Work with Asset Management to improve equipment reliability and eliminate recurring failures.
  • Support projects, plant modifications, Management of Change (MOC), and improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical input for maintenance and turnaround (TAR) activities.
  • Ensure electrical systems are maintained safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations and company standards.
  • Ensure all electrical activities comply with HSE requirements, statutory regulations, company procedures, and engineering standards.
  • Promote safe electrical work practices, including Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout Tagout (LOTO), isolation verification, HV switching, and safe restoration of electrical systems.
  • Support compliance with Energy Commission requirements and all applicable electrical regulations.
  • Ensure maintenance, testing, and inspections are performed using approved procedures and suitable test equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and testing records.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Perform statutory competent-person responsibilities only when formally appointed and certified.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Support maintenance of transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, drives, UPS systems, batteries, electrical heat tracing, and power distribution systems.
  • Investigate equipment failures and coordinate corrective actions with operations, contractors, and vendors.
  • Support condition monitoring and equipment health assessments.
  • Ensure electrical equipment is properly tested, restored, and returned to service after maintenance activities.
  • Assist in commissioning, start-up, shutdown, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Liaise with OEMs and specialist service providers when required.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Provide technical support for protection relays, interlocks, trip systems, automatic transfer schemes, synchronizing systems, and load-shedding schemes.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot power monitoring systems and interfaces with PMCS, SCADA, DCS, and other plant systems.
  • Review protection settings, control logic, and proposed modifications within delegated authority.
  • Analyze electrical trips, disturbances, and equipment failures to identify root causes and preventive actions.
  • Support testing, commissioning, energization, and verification activities after maintenance or project work.
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), bad actor reviews, and reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Work with Asset Management to develop reliability plans for critical electrical equipment.
  • Review maintenance data, equipment performance, and condition-monitoring results to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support improvements to maintenance strategies, inspection methods, and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Identify equipment obsolescence and lifecycle risks and recommend replacement or upgrade plans.
  • Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions arising from audits, incidents, and reliability studies.
  • Provide electrical engineering support for projects, plant modifications, and improvement activities.
  • Assist with scope development, technical specifications, design reviews, equipment selection, and execution planning.
  • Review engineering documents such as:
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Electrical schematics
    • Load lists
    • Cable schedules
    • Datasheets
    • Protection studies
    • Control philosophies
    • Installation drawings
    • Commissioning procedures
  • Ensure designs meet safety, compliance, reliability, operability, and maintainability requirements.
  • Support installation, testing, commissioning, performance verification, and handover activities.
  • Coordinate with project teams, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders during project execution.
  • Ensure all drawings, records, maintenance data, and documentation are updated following project completion.
  • Support planning and execution of turnaround (TAR), shutdown, and opportunity-maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical input on work scope, manpower, materials, vendor requirements, testing needs, and schedule planning.
  • Review work packs, method statements, test procedures, switching plans, and commissioning plans.
  • Support execution activities including troubleshooting, testing, energization, defect resolution, and reinstatement.
  • Provide technical support throughout shutdown and start-up activities.
  • Participate in post-turnaround reviews and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to chargemen, technicians, junior staff, contractors, and vendors.
  • Support the E&I Superintendent in achieving maintenance, reliability, safety, and compliance objectives.
  • Work closely with Operations, Asset Management, Projects, HSSE, Planning, Warehouse, Procurement, OEMs, and external authorities.
  • Support work prioritization, technical reviews, material requirements, and urgent plant issues.
  • Prepare technical reports, failure investigations, recommendations, and progress updates.
  • Escalate significant safety, reliability, cost, or schedule risks when required.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and development of team competencies.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the E&I Superintendent or Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

  • Diploma/ Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or equivalent.

Preferred Certifications will be an advatage:

  • 33kV BO Chargeman or equivalent competency certification.
  • High-voltage switching and electrical safety certification.
  • Protection relay testing and power system protection training.
  • Electrical equipment testing and diagnostics training.
  • Project Management or Management of Change (MOC) training.
  • Reliability, Asset Management, or RCA training.
  • Hazardous Area Electrical Installation and Inspection certification.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good understanding of electrical maintenance and engineering in industrial or process plant environments.
  • Knowledge of transformers, switchgear, MCCs, motors, drives, UPS systems, batteries, earthing, lightning protection, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Understanding of electrical protection, control systems, PMCS, SCADA, and DCS interfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of electrical regulations, safety requirements, Permit-to-Work systems, and LOTO practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Familiarity with EAM/CMMS systems and maintenance work processes.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.


Job Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance, engineering, reliability, or project support in an industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience with operation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and distribution systems.
  • Experience supporting preventive, corrective, predictive, and shutdown maintenance activities.
  • Experience working with technicians, contractors, vendors, and OEMs.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining technical documentation and maintenance records.
