Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for an Electrical Maintenance Technician to join the Services and Infrastructure Department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position
The Electrical Maintenance Technician is responsible for delivering planned and reactive electrical maintenance services across Institute facilities, equipment and infrastructure. The position ensures the safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical assets through preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs and technical support.

The role has a primary focus on electrical maintenance, with an opportunity to progressively develop instrumentation and control system capability through structured mentoring, practical experience and knowledge transfer with experienced technical staff.

The position supports the Facilities Maintenance team by contributing to general facilities maintenance activities, assisting with multidisciplinary works and maintaining reliable services across teaching, research, laboratory and operational environments.

Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Current Victorian A-Grade Electrical License and relevant electrical trade qualification.

  • Demonstrated experience performing electrical maintenance in a commercial, industrial, institutional or facilities environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair routine electrical faults.

  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) or monitoring systems, Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and sensors, alarms, actuators or other low-voltage control devices.

  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety.

  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary facilities maintenance team.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Exposure to instrumentation, control systems or automated equipment.

  • Experience working within education, research, healthcare or complex facilities environments.

  • Experience in developing instrumentation and control system capability.

Personal Qualities:

  • Ability to work autonomously and navigate complexity and ambiguity, while keeping team members and partners informed and engaged.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to deal efficiently and professionally with stakeholders, contractors and service providers.

  • High level of organisational skills with proven ability in setting priorities and operating within set deadlines.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve routine technical issues.

  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high-quality customer service and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary facilities maintenance team.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and develop specialist technical capability through mentoring, practical experience and ongoing professional development.

​​​​​​��Terms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 5 ($84,479 -$97,036). Very attractive salary packaging options are available for general living expenses, meal entertainment, novated leasing and more. 12% superannuation payable, plus up to a further 5% after the first 6 months of service via our matching superannuation scheme.
