About this role

Company Description

Kenn Borek Air (KBA) is a diversified worldwide aircraft charter and leasing operation.  The KBA Maintenance team is currently seeking an individual to join the Engine Department in the role of Engine Technician. This full time position is based in Calgary, AB working Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Opportunity for overtime through project based weekend hours.

Job Description

Engine technician can complete tasks related to the assembly, disassembly, inspection and balancing of gas turbine engines and their components in accordance with the manufacturer specifications and company procedures. Preference will be given to individuals who have related work experience on the PT6A engine line.

Major Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Conduct all work in accordance with company policies, quality procedures, manufacturers and customer specification and industry regulations.
  • Familiarity with applicable Transport Canada, aviation maintenance, quality, and SMS requirements.
  • Responsible for proper use, calibration awareness, care, and accountability of precision tools, measuring equipment, and shop tooling.
  • Promote a safe work environment by identifying and reporting hazards and incidents, following safety procedures and PPE requirements, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure accurate communication with inspectors, planners, supervisors, and other technicians to support workflow and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate in Lean, 5S, process improvement, and shop efficiency initiatives.
  • Complete all documents related to the work being performed.
  • Receive incoming gas turbine engines.
  • Disassemble engines as required and assemble main engines, modules, and subassemblies.
  • Perform visual inspections of engine parts and, when required, detailed inspections on a temporary basis.
  • Perform borescope inspections on engines.
  • Balance rotation components.
  • Perform hot section repairs.
  • Perform flow testing of individuals fuel nozzle components and assemblies.
  • Prepare engine for dispatch.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, with demonstrated mechanical aptitude. Preference will be given to individuals with aerospace-related education, particularly an Aircraft Gas Turbine Technician course.
  • Ability to read and interpret engine manuals, service bulletins, maintenance instructions, drawings, and work orders.
  • Ability to life parts/tools, stand for extended periods, work around aircraft engines/components, and perform repetitive mechanical tasks.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, part traceability, and safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with aviation quality systems, SMS requirements, hazard reporting, and shop safety practices is required.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate technical issues clearly, and support continuous improvement and housekeeping standards.
  • PT6A shop and/or related turbine engine experience is considered an asset.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to use computer-based maintenance and company systems.
  • Basic hand tools required.
  • Training will be made available for applicants who may not meet all qualifications.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transport Canada Airport Restricted Area Pass.
