Position Summary

The Estimator II will prepare Regular Production cost estimates for projects based on customer supplied takeoffs as a basis for pricing quotations. Work involves diversity of products of complex design where application of established estimating practices is more difficult, and scope is diverse. The estimator would have solid experience with multiple windows and/or storefront/curtain wall product lines, with understanding of product limitations, performance requirements and basic anchoring requirements for product install. Position requires a technical knowledge of manufacturing practices, material identifiers and cost estimating procedures. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide training and mentoring to Estimator I team members.

  • Evaluates customer request for quotation (RFQ) with ability to identify incomplete information or risks. Depending on brand and region, the estimator could self-schedule workload based on requested due dates and their available capacity.

  • Creates formal quote/bid and related documents for moderately complex quotes without supervision with ability to resolve most estimating issues with moderate input. Maintain, and revise, all quote cost data and records contingent on changing conditions, methods and other factors involved. 

  • Assist with assessing cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services by tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Makes recommendations on bid strategy and pricing alternates.

  • Obtain quotes from outside suppliers for custom materials as required.

  • Does technical reviews, including structural review using available tools, and collaborates with engineering, project management and sales as required for effective product solutions. Could also require review of project specifications depending on brand product choice. This could include, but is not limited to, Impact-rated, Blast-rated, or custom assemblies completed by engineering department.

  • Competent knowledge of pricing processes and in the use of pricing programs/systems; with ability to manage multiple quotes simultaneously with accuracy. Could require ability to quote multiple brands or mixed product types based on available training and pricing programs; and as needed based on Estimating department’s capacity limitations and requirements.

Experience & Skills

Education:

  • 2-year technical degree or related experience required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of related experience required.

  • Competent business, process, and industry knowledge.

  • Costing and pricing experience required.

Required Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of Architectural Metals products and processes, or equivalent.

  • High level of professionalism.

  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task proficiently.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong technical skills to include – Microsoft Office, product configurator and ERP software.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Data analysis skills.

  • Sound mathematical and numeracy skills.

  • Ability to review projects for adding value and optimizing costs.

  • Critical Thinking - using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

Work Environment/Travel Requirements

Mostly an office environment with occasional visits to the manufacturing floor (proper PPE must be worn on manufacturing floor). Occasional travel related to other sites / corporate. Must be able to lift and/or move 10lbs.
