The Opportunity
The Facilities Area Lead role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of Abbott’s facilities across the region through a balanced combination of hands‑on execution, operational leadership, and vendor management. The role ensures business continuity, service quality, compliance, and cost‑efficient use of resources by overseeing daily facility operations, coordinating third‑party services, optimizing processes, and supporting regional initiatives that enhance workplace performance and employee experience. The role is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of Abbott’s facilities across the region through a balanced combination of hands‑on execution, operational leadership, and vendor management. The role ensures business continuity, service quality, compliance, and cost‑efficient use of resources by overseeing daily facility operations, coordinating third‑party services, optimizing processes, and supporting regional initiatives that enhance workplace performance and employee experience.
What You’ll Do
Oversee daily operation of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, security, access control, among others). Manage preventive and corrective maintenance plans and ensure timely execution. Conduct routine site inspections to identify risks, deficiencies, and improvement opportunities. Respond to operational incidents and coordinate immediate resolution to minimize downtime.
Supervise, direct, and evaluate third party service providers across multiple countries. Monitor vendor compliance with SLAs and KPIs; enforce corrective actions when needed. Actively participate in contract negotiations to ensure optimal cost, performance, and service value. Validate vendor reports, schedules, invoices, and resource allocation.
Manage annual facility operating budgets, ensuring alignment with financiais targets. Track expenses, forecast needs, and identify cost saving initiatives. Influence CapEx decisions by providing operational and technical recommendations.
Act as primary contact for internal stakeholders, resolving service requests and escalations. Ensure high quality workplace services (cleaning, reception, mailroom, office services). Communicate operational updates, system interventions, and project impacts proactively. Coordinate with HR, IT, Finance, EHS, Procurement, and country leadership.
Ensure compliance with local regulations, building codes, EHS requirements, and corporate standards. Maintain accurate documentation, logs, permits, reports, and audit records. Support internal and external audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
Oversee space allocation, workstation layout changes, and office moves. Coordinate small to medium facility projects and reconfigurations. Optimize space utilization based on business needs and occupancy patterns in conjunction with the installation planner.
Execute and support initiatives aimed at improving facilities processes and services. Apply root cause analysis to reduce recurring operational issues. Implement solutions that enhance reliability, cost efficiency, and service quality. Support regional standardization and best practice sharing.
Identify operational risks and develop mitigation plans. Activate contingency procedures during emergencies or critical system failures. Ensure rapid restoration of services to protect business operations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or a related discipline).
Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience.
Demonstrated experience in facilities management, manufacturing or industrial operations, building maintenance, or similar technical environments.
Proven track record of overseeing outsourced service providers, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring service delivery performance against established standards and business objectives.
English proficiency at a B2 (Upper-Intermediate) level, with the ability to communicate effectively in professional and business settings.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time within the assigned region to support site operations, vendor management activities, and other business requirements.
