General Description
The purpose of this class is to perform skilled preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of County buildings, equipment, and related facilities systems. The position independently responds to a broad range of service requests and work orders; diagnoses building and equipment problems; performs skilled maintenance and repair activities; and assists with maintaining safe, functional, and reliable County facilities. Work requires greater technical proficiency, independent judgment, and responsibility for resolving more complex facilities maintenance issues in accordance with established procedures, safety requirements, service level expectations, and departmental standards.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, climbing, and use of hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, and building components. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally assist with moving heavier equipment or materials using appropriate equipment or additional personnel.
The work requires the ability to climb and work from ladders; access mechanical rooms, equipment areas, and other confined or limited-access spaces; work above and below shoulder level; and perform maintenance and repair activities in a variety of physical positions.
The work is performed in County buildings, mechanical and equipment rooms, maintenance areas, rooftops, exterior building areas, and outdoors. Work may involve exposure to heat, cold, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, dirt, grease, fumes, chemicals, moving machinery, electrical equipment, and other conditions commonly associated with facilities maintenance and repair work.
The employee may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, respiratory protection, protective footwear, fall protection, and other safety equipment appropriate to the work being performed.
The position may require work outside of normal business hours and response to facility emergencies or other operational needs.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 1
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must maintain CJIS compliance.
Must possess a valid TX driver’s license.
