Job Description Summary:

Aviagen Turkeys Inc. is looking for an experienced, hands-on leader to serve as Farm Supervisor and support the Lay Farm Manager in coordinating safe and efficient operations across multiple poultry farms. The selected individual will initially work alongside the outgoing Farm Supervisor to learn established operations, priorities, and practices.

This role is best suited for an experienced poultry professional who can assess multiple farm needs, prioritize effectively, troubleshoot problems, and follow through until issues are resolved. The successful candidate will be dependable, observant, calm under pressure, and comfortable providing clear direction, practical guidance, and hands-on assistance. They should enjoy developing employees, building strong farm teams, and taking responsibility for successful farm operations.

Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Lay Farm Manager in overseeing safe, efficient, and productive poultry farm operations.
  • Learn established farm operations and management practices by working alongside the outgoing Farm Supervisor during the transition period.
  • Monitor conditions and priorities across multiple farms and respond appropriately to changing operational needs.
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for farm employees when questions, problems, or unexpected situations arise.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving poultry care, equipment, staffing, sanitation, farm conditions, and daily operations.
  • Prioritize work and coordinate the employees, equipment, supplies, and other resources needed to complete it.
  • Assign duties to farm employees, communicate expectations clearly, and follow up to ensure work is completed safely and correctly.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and practical guidance to help new and existing employees become confident and successful in their roles.
  • Identify performance or training gaps and assist employees in developing the knowledge and skills needed to meet farm standards.
  • Assist with breeder operations, vaccinations, farm cleanouts, sanitation, biosecurity, and routine farm and vehicle maintenance.
  • Oversee the safe and effective use of farm machinery and equipment.
  • Help ensure proper care of poultry, including recognizing and responding to signs of illness, injury, or other concerns.
  • Promote and enforce company expectations related to safety, animal welfare, biosecurity, sanitation, attendance, and workplace conduct.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and prepare reports related to staffing, attendance, supplies, production, poultry growth, and other farm activities.
  • Communicate farm needs, emerging concerns, and recommended solutions to the Lay Farm Manager.
  • Assist other farms and departments when operational needs require additional support.
  • Participate in an on-call schedule and respond to farm emergencies outside normal working hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties necessary to support successful farm operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, or a related field, or at least five years of relevant poultry experience.
  • Experience with poultry breeder operations strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of poultry care, vaccination, farm cleanouts, sanitation, biosecurity, and farm operations.
  • Experience troubleshooting farm equipment, operational issues, and basic farm or vehicle maintenance needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, motivate, and hold employees accountable.
  • Ability to assess multiple needs, establish priorities, and make sound decisions in a fast-moving environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, practical, and solution-focused when responding to problems or emergencies.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently while remaining team oriented.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to complete work accurately and efficiently.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility, follow through on commitments, and work toward individual, departmental, and company goals.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other business systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between farm locations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and after-hours emergency response as operational needs require.
