About this role

Mill is a waste prevention technology company reimagining what it means to eliminate waste, starting with food. We build smart systems and infrastructure for homes, businesses, and municipalities that transform food scraps from landfill-bound waste into valuable resources, including chicken feed. Tens of thousands of Mill’s residential food recyclers are already helping households divert millions of pounds of food scraps every year, paving the way for our upcoming launch of Mill Commercial—the industry’s first end-to-end solution for managing, understanding, and preventing food waste in commercial environments (e.g. grocery, restaurants, food services). At Mill, we are passionate about building easy-to-use, beautifully designed technologies that keep food in the food system and out of landfills.

About the role

As a Feed Manufacturing Operator you will be a part of Mill’s Feed Business team, helping to turn collected Food scraps from the home into a chicken feed ingredient. The primary office location for this role is based out of our Feed Manufacturing Facility in Mukilteo, Washington (~25 miles north of Seattle). The job will require you to be onsite 5 days a week, for 8 hour day shifts. This is an hourly non-exempt position.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe working environment and participate in required safety programs, trainings and meetings.
  • Inspect inbound material and document findings.
  • Operate and field check process equipment by monitoring process conditions, equipment and controls systems including safe lock-out/tag-out of all energy sources.
  • Responsible for working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold. 
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and adheres to strict safety guidelines including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, coveralls, ear plugs and N95 dust mask.
  • Collect and analyze samples and verify product meets requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of production, quality and maintenance activities, ensuring traceability of materials and resources.
  • Take immediate action to rectify, communicate, and appropriately quarantine any non-conforming product.
  • Obtain, load, unload, transport, store and stage all materials involved in manufacturing plant. 
  • Must be able to safely and effectively operate a lift truck, including but not limited to moving raw materials and finished goods, storing materials on shelves, and loading/unloading trucks and trailers.
  • Maintain situational awareness of the processes on the line and make suggestions to improve safety, quality and/or yield.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to stand and walk for up to 6 to 8 hours per day. Activities include walking up and down the stairs, twisting, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and working on elevated surfaces > 10 ft.
  • Will require the ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs no greater than 50 yards.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship / support is available for this position

Ideally You Will Have…

  • A minimum of 1 year experience in warehouse / logistics / manufacturing or production environment
  • Experience driving various types of forklifts or other powered material handling equipment
  • Basic knowledge of Google Suite, Excel, and Slack
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to adhere to deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision
  • Critical thinking and troubleshooting skills, along with mechanical aptitude to use hand tools and conduct minor maintenance

The estimated hourly rate for this position is $16-$25 which does not include the value of benefits. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs. At Mill, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
