Responsibilities/Qualifications

Job Summary

We are seeking a certified Personal Trainer to design and deliver safe, effective fitness programs for residents in our senior living community. This role focuses on improving strength, balance, mobility, and overall quality of life for older adults, including those with varying physical abilities and chronic health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fitness assessments to evaluate residents' baseline strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.
  • Develop individualized exercise programs tailored to each resident's goals, medical history, and physical limitations.
  • Lead one-on-one and small group training sessions, including strength training, balance work, chair exercises, and low-impact cardio.
  • Monitor residents during sessions to ensure proper form and prevent injury, adjusting programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physical therapists, and other care team members to align fitness plans with residents' overall care goals.
  • Educate residents and families on the benefits of physical activity for healthy aging, fall prevention, and chronic disease management.
  • Maintain accurate records of resident progress, attendance, and any incidents.
  • Stay current on best practices for exercise programming with older adults, including fall-prevention research and adaptive techniques.

Qualifications

  • A nationally recognized personal training certification is required (e.g., NASM, ACE, ACSM, NSCA), with a specialty certification in senior fitness preferred (such as ACE Senior Fitness Specialist or similar).
  • CPR/AED certification is required.
  • Prior experience working with older adults, in a senior living, rehabilitation, or clinical setting is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of common age-related conditions (arthritis, osteoporosis, balance disorders, cardiovascular disease) and how to safely train around them.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and empathy for working with a senior population.
  • Ability to lift and assist residents as needed and to respond calmly in emergency situations.

Work Environment

This role typically involves a mix of group fitness classes, one-on-one sessions, and time spent on resident floors or in a dedicated fitness studio. Some physical exertion is required, including demonstrating exercises and assisting residents with equipment or mobility aids.
