As crypto usage on Fanvue's payment rails keeps growing, so does our exposure to crypto-specific fraud and financial crime. Recent cases have shown gaps in the Fraud team's crypto knowledge, and right now nobody on the team has dedicated crypto fraud or financial crime expertise. This role exists to build that capability from the ground up.
We're hiring Fanvue's first Fraud Investigator with dedicated crypto expertise, reporting to Head of Fraud. AI has taken our fraud detection as far as it can on crypto rails, what's missing is in-house subject matter expertise: someone who has used these investigation tools before, can set the strategy, and can train the rest of the team.
Lead on investigating cases of potential fraud or financial crime where crypto rails are involved, including payment fraud, account takeover, and money laundering typologies on crypto on/off-ramps
Build out crypto-specific fraud investigation capability within the Fraud team: on-chain tracing methods, tooling, and documented process for crypto-related cases
Train the wider Fraud team on crypto fraud red flags and typologies, so risk indicators get caught earlier in standard triage, not just by you
Design how Fanvue prevents and detects crypto-related fraud and financial crime as the function matures
Work directly with vendors to get the most out of crypto investigation tooling and data
Support fraud and financial crime investigations where crypto isn't involved, as part of the wider Fraud team's caseload
Lead on escalations to law enforcement where relevant
Feed your expertise into loss prevention strategy across Fraud, product, and payments
3+ years investigating fraud and/or financial crime with specific crypto/blockchain exposure, from an exchange, blockchain analytics firm, bank crypto desk, or law enforcement crypto unit
A process creator and improver: you've played a role in designing or improving investigation techniques, not just following them
Comfortable being the subject matter expert. As our first crypto-focused Fraud hire, you'll build the wider team's knowledge while acting as the go-to for other parts of the business (payments, payouts, product) wherever crypto risk shows up
Familiar with crypto investigation tooling (e.g. Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic, etc.) and know how to get the most from it in a fraud prevention context
High ownership: excited by a large, expanding remit, and not afraid to break new ground without an existing playbook
You want to build a function from scratch rather than inherit one
You're energised by being the go-to expert and enjoy teaching others what you know
You like combining hands-on casework with process and systems design
You're comfortable working across functions, Fraud, product, payments, to get crypto risk taken seriously
You need an established playbook, team, or tooling already in place before you can be effective
You'd rather stay purely hands-on and not upskill others
You're not comfortable being the sole specialist accountable for a new risk area
