About this role

We are looking for promising early-career software engineers with the potential to become some of the strongest technical contributors at CloudLinux/TuxCare. This is a real, full-time, paid engineering job - not an internship.

You will join a specific product team, work on production systems, and grow under the direct mentorship of a senior engineer.

Depending on your interests and how you develop, you'll grow into one of our core engineering tracks: operating systems and open source, security, or deeper system- and kernel-level engineering.

Who we are

CloudLinux and TuxCare share a common origin, now operating as two separate companies. CloudLinux provides the operating system and security software that hosting providers rely on to keep shared servers protected and running efficiently. TuxCare provides live patching and extended security support that keeps Linux systems secure without taking servers offline to patch them.

What you'll do

  • Work on real engineering problems in one of our product or technology areas.
  • Learn from your mentor and the wider engineering team.
  • Explore unfamiliar technologies and build a deep understanding of complex systems.
  • Design and implement technical solutions from initial idea through delivery.
  • Use AI tools as part of your day-to-day work, applying judgment about what to accept, reject, and verify.
  • Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Take on increasing ownership of your work as your skills grow.

Requirements

A successful candidate will typically show:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Genuine curiosity about how things work.
  • The ability to learn quickly and independently.
  • A structured approach to complex and unfamiliar problems.
  • The ability to take a technical idea and think it through to a complete solution.
  • High standards for the quality of their work.
  • Persistence when a problem doesn't have an obvious answer.
  • Clear communication and the ability to explain technical decisions.
  • Working proficiency in English.

We don't filter by degree, university, or years of experience. We are open to:

  • final-year students;
  • recent graduates;
  • graduates of intensive technical schools or coding programs;
  • engineers in the early stages of their careers.

What may help you stand out

Any of the following can strengthen your application, although none is mandatory:

  • Personal or academic software projects, especially ones you can explain the design decisions behind.
  • Contributions to open-source projects, even small ones.
  • Participation in CTF competitions, hackathons, or a homelab you administer.
  • Evidence that you have taught yourself a language, stack, or system in depth because a problem demanded it.
  • The knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • Strong interest in Linux, networking, security, etc.
  • Experience using AI tools to research, design, debug, or build, and sound judgment about when to trust the results.

How selection works

Selection starts with your work, not your resume:

  • Apply (a couple of minutes — autofill from your CV or LinkedIn).
  • We email you a personal link to our engineering challenge. You start whenever you're ready within the access window.
  • The challenge takes ~1–2 hours and is modelled on a real problem from our security products — one our engineers have already solved in production. Your work isn't used anywhere; the challenge exists purely to show us how you think. It unfolds in phases, with changing requirements, and is deliberately larger than anyone can finish — we look at what you prioritise and why, not at whether you complete every part.
  • AI tools are expected, not just allowed. With AI, working code is the easy part — we're interested in your judgment: what you accept, reject, and verify, and how you defend your trade-offs.
  • Candidates whose challenge results demonstrate a strong match will be invited to interview with our senior engineers and HR — the people you'd actually work with, and learn from, day to day.
