What are we looking for?

Absolute Science is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Intern to join our team in Pretoria on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This opportunity is ideal for a recent graduate looking to gain practical laboratory experience and develop their skills in an accredited analytical environment.

What do we expect from the candidate?

We expect a Graduate Intern candidate to demonstrate strong technical proficiency in laboratory procedures, meticulous attention to detail, and a solid understanding of safety and compliance standards. The ideal candidate should be capable of accurately conducting tests, analyzing data, and maintaining detailed records. Additionally, they should possess problem-solving skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to adapt to evolving laboratory technologies and protocols.

The key responsibilities:

• Producing accurate and reliable analytical data by following approved methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Preparing and analysing samples using a variety of laboratory techniques and instrumentation, including:

  • Weighing

  • pH measurement

  • Density determination

  • Viscosity testing

  • Particle size analysis

  • Titration

  • Spectrophotometry

  • Electrical conductivity measurement

  • Moisture determination

  • Ashing determination

• Maintaining accurate records and laboratory documentation.

• Ensuring high standards of housekeeping in laboratories, storage areas, and offices.

• Conducting daily temperature monitoring and recording.

• Assisting with the safe handling and replacement of gas cylinders.

• Supporting senior laboratory personnel with additional tasks to ensure the timely achievement of departmental objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs).

• Sound theoretical knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and practices.

• The ability to remain focused and perform effectively in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

• Competence in equipment maintenance and verification procedures.

• A commitment to complying with the laboratory's Quality Management System (QMS).
