Hardware/Software Lab Technician

Description -

The primary responsibility is to provide support to the engineering partners by executing experiments.  Individuals in this position develop, execute, monitor and analyze standard and non-standard operations, tests or experiments frequently working from general objectives. Area disciplines can be writing systems computer science related.  Individual will provide technical support to a process/product in respect to feasibility, tool and fixture development, process documentation, and/or the application of associated software and images.

Safety/Ergonomics:

  • Strictly adhere to all safety policies and standard lab procedures

  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work area

  • Proactively seeks out and takes appropriate action to communicate and correct any potential safety or ergonomic issues in the work area

  • Follow safety procedures, good housekeeping practices and utilize appropriate safety equipment

Product/Process Support:

  • Co-develop implement and maintain processes and solutions as required by engineering for development as well as other WS peers.

  •  Technician may asked to use XML, UNIX, C#, C++, TCL, Visual Basic, Python, image processing software or other needed software to meet business needs. Ability to create, write, edit scripts, plot streams, batch files, and software code as needed per project.

  • Modifies accessories and implements electronic, software and/or mechanical modifications to existing equipment and systems utilizing engineering resources as needed.

  • Performs precision alignments and calibrations on whole systems and sub-systems; verifies tool set-ups, relocations and re-configurations.

  • Help troubleshoot and document failures on a wide variety of equipment, test-bed, proto-type units to the component level utilizing various technologies and concepts using standard/non-standard processes and tools.

  • Perform, maintain and set-up computer systems to control equipment sets according to specified configuration requirements for both hardware and software. Troubleshoot computer setups and installations of operating systems.

Communication:

  • Communicate real time failure causes to test technicians, and/or engineers.

  • Ensure effective, two-way communication of issues, concerns, workload, schedules, and all process related activities.

  • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to partners.

  • Ensures communication to others is clear, concise, tactful and well understood. This includes verbal (person to person, group, and voice mail), written documentation and electronic (e-mail, shared files, etc.) methods to a wide variety of audiences.

  • Ability to recognize and make value added suggestions; i.e., process improvement, test plans, equipment and tools, etc. and follows through to implementation and follow-up.

  • Interacts and communicates with inter-department to share information, coordinate activities, and assist in completion of tasks: i.e., FA Priority Meetings.

  • Provides information on test and test equipment in the area and communicates the process.

  • Communicate with partners on technical issues.

Creates Partnerships:

  • Communicates among test techs and engineers.

  • Proactive and able to work with autonomy and in a team environment

  • Resource for test technicians, engineering partners and supervisor.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science or Equivalent combination of business education and or related experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to use algebraic formulas, decimals and fractions.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and schedule tasks to meet partner needs

  • Must be able to successfully cope with rapid changes in priority

  • Strong multi-tasking skills. Must be able to perform operations simultaneously and must be able to switch from task to task upon demand.

  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Must have effective communication and networking skills.

  • Able to work in an ambiguous environment, with little supervision.

  • Must know basic Microsoft office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Must have mechanical dexterity, long standing; be able to perform some repetitive tasks.

  • Must have some foundation, programming skills.

  • Must be able to wear all PPE (personal protective equipment)

  • Must be able to distinguish colors

  • Must be able to work in sitting positions

Desired:

  • Prior TIJ knowledge.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow through.

The pay range for this position is $29 to $43 USD per hour (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
