Job Description

About the Role
As a Haven Operator at Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, in North Kansas City, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and continuous operation of mill equipment while supporting product quality and efficient production flow. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment, enjoys troubleshooting, and is committed to safety and quality.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure safe and continuous operation of machinery and report unsafe conditions.

  • Monitor and control mill processes, including loading coils, operating equipment, and performing quality checks.

  • Maintain equipment operating condition and perform preventive maintenance as needed.

  • Perform size, gauge, grade, and shape changes on the production line for assigned tube and pipe mill.

  • Inspect tooling condition and communicate reconditioning needs at the end of each rolling.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and quality issues while coordinating with crew and supervision to maintain product quality.

  • Assist maintenance with preventive maintenance tasks, including mill adjustments, fluid checks, and minor repairs.

  • Direct and assist with mill changeovers to support smooth transitions.

  • Communicate quality requirements clearly to the mill crew.

  • Maintain offline requirements to support quick-change operations.

  • Calibrate micrometers at the start of shifts and during changeovers.

  • Complete production records, paperwork, and inventory requirements accurately.

  • Follow company safety policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Previous mill operation or machine operator experience strongly preferred.

  • Tube mill manufacturing experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, decimals, and fractions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including diagnosing equipment and quality issues.

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to interpret documents effectively.

  • Basic computer skills to access work orders and key production requirements.

  • Familiarity with measuring devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers preferred.

  • Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours when emergencies arise.

  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule.

Physical Abilities

  • Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and production equipment in an industrial environment.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.

  • Ability to wear required PPE, including enhanced visibility uniforms and protective equipment as needed.

Compensation & Benefits
Below is the expected base hourly range for this position. This is a good-faith estimate, and offers will be determined based on experience, education, skill set, and interview performance.

  • Base Hourly Range: $20.00 to $23.00 plus Production Incentive Bonus

  • Shift: 2nd Shift 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
