This position supervises and works on grounds maintenance, special grounds and landscape installation projects including but not limited to irrigation, drainage, concrete, arbor, etc. This position also installs and maintains turf, landscape beds and irrigation systems. Emergency and/or routine work includes but is not limited to concrete/asphalt removal/repair, tree/limb removal, planting/bracing, grounds projects and special functions/events. This position supervises grounds and construction employees, inmate crews and contract labor. This position requires the ability to complete any necessary administrative responsibilities.
Job Duties
65%- Supervise and support direct reports. assigned crews, inmate labor, and contract labor to perform daily landscape maintenance and installation tasks such as but not limited to mowing. string trimming, chemical application. agriculture services, concrete maintenance and installation, irrigation maintenance & installation, landscape installation, bed and soil preparation work. hardscape layout and installation. planting, sodding, etc. on both regular maintenance and new projects.
10%- Plan, schedule, and procure materials and equipment for maintenance and project related tasks.
10%- Perform all Human Resource related tasks such as but not limited to time keeping, performance reviews, accident reports, disciplinary work, etc. Assure that all machinery and equipment used is cleaned and maintained properly and communicate repair needs to the shop foreman. Perform safety meetings on a monthly basis.
5%- Supervise and perform preventative maintenance, repair and daily cleaning of assigned equipment; campus irrigation inspections; system commissioning and follow up repair tasks to ensure proper operation.
5%- Perform other duties as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience or training in farming, the care and maintenance of trees and shrubs, or groundskeeping; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in a plant science or landscape field of study.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67.
In accordance with PS-18 this position maybe required to report to or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be capable of stooping, kneeling, balancing, or crouching; able to reach and/or climb a ladder. Position is subject to outside environmental conditions. Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
