About this role

Ironbark No 1 mine is located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, approximately 30km north-east of Moranbah and 160km from Mackay and forms part of the broader Argo Complex. This integrated mining complex includes the Carborough Board & Pillar and Broadlea Open Cut Mines, as well as a centralised Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), where collaboration between our sites and teams is key to delivering safe and efficient outcomes.

BUILT FOR THIS?

This is a genuine hands-on role—and includes the grunt work. You won’t just be advising from the sidelines; you’ll be in it end-to-end. From drafting letters and managing documentation to chasing paperwork, updating systems, and keeping processes moving, you’ll own the detail as much as the conversations - where no task is too small if it supports the operation.

This HR role is heavily operational in nature, with the day-to-day workload and priorities largely determined by the operational demands of Ironbark - not driven by broader HR activity; you will partner with site leaders and build relationships with our workforce underground as a key focus.

ABOUT YOU

  • Proven experience in a generalist HR role, ideally within a fast-paced or operational environment (e.g. mining, construction, manufacturing, or heavy industry). No coal experience? No problem. What matters is your grit, your ability to think on your feet, and your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved.

  • Ability to work autonomously on site while staying connected with and supporting broader HR and business objectives.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply HR practices practically—not just advise but execute and follow through.

  • Strong administrative capability with, payroll, timesheets, end-to-end recruitment and onboarding experience, Microsoft (especially Excel) and HRIS experience.

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related discipline (desirable, not essential).

WHAT THIS ROLE OFFERS

  • 5 / 2 / 4 / 3 roster, every second Friday off!

  • Ideally this position suits someone based in the Moranbah, Mackay, Airlie Beach area or someone willing to relocate.

  • Accommodation is provided and flexible based on your home location.

  • Attractive remuneration and other benefits available with career progression opportunities.

  • Reporting to the General Manager (SSE), Ironbark is entering a critical phase of building and strengthening its site leadership team, creating a significant opportunity for a strong, operationally focused HR professional to make a meaningful impact.
