Job Description:

The LSU Agricultural Center is a statewide organization with offices in every parish of Louisiana.  We are currently seeking extraordinary candidates for a HR Staff Specialist/Sr. HR Staff Specialist. This position will be domiciled in Efferson Hall, Baton Rouge, LA.

About the LSU Agricultural Center:  The LSU AgCenter focuses on research, extension and teaching to make advancements that will benefit generations. The LSU AgCenter is one of 5 institutions that comprise the research enterprise of the LSU System and one of 9 campuses in the state. The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 academic departments and five regions which are made up of 15 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish.  More information can be found at www.lsuagcenter.com.

Position Description:    The Human Resource Staff Specialist serves as a resource for new academic and unclassified employees on employment matters, and processes requests related to immigration services for the AgCenter. This position reports to the Assistant Director of HRM.   Specific duties are as follows:

  • Conducts the processing of hires and promotions for academic and unclassified employees.  The incumbent of this position handles the human resources onboarding process for new hires ensuring that they complete necessary paperwork and are entered into the Workday system.  Processes hire transactions for certain classes of temporary employees of the AgCenter as well.  The incumbent handles the recruiting phase for unclassified employees.  Works to advertise and fill vacancies in accordance with AgCenter policies and procedures.  Sets up search committees in the Workday system and serves as a point of contact for departmental issues with the recruitment process.  Processes background checks on potential hires as needed.  Assists units with questions and concerns on WAE’s, Graduate Assistantships, and student worker hires.

  • Assists the HR Manager for Talent and Operations with immigration services for the AgCenter.  Handles immigration related services for employees, interfaces with departmental staff regarding visa options, processes paperwork necessary for work visa requests.  Updates and maintains compliance information for international hires.

  • Completes projects and research on matters related to regular job duties.  Assists other HR staff members on projects or large assignments as requested.  Maintains working knowledge of relevant employment laws, regulations, and programs in order to ensure that information shared with employees and departments is accurate and complete.

  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of HR operations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to the duties of the position and 2+ years of experience in Human Resources or closely related field. Experience in working with various key stakeholders. Must be able to research information and analyze data to arrive at valid conclusions, recommendations and action plans. Strong mathematical and analytical capabilities required. Excellent interpersonal skills to work with employees at all levels: exempt and non-exempt and at all locations, statewide. Superior oral and written communication skills with prior experience delivering information to broad and diverse audiences.  Advanced degree, immigration experience, higher education experience, and Workday experience preferred.
