Job Details:

Job Title: Installation & Commissioning Technician

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for the end-to-end execution of device deployment projects, including site installation, picking and packing of equipment, and commissioning of devices at customer locations. The technician ensures all installations meet quality standards and are completed within project timelines, contributing to the achievement of contractual KPIs and SLAs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Site Installation

  • Perform physical installation of devices and infrastructure at customer sites according to engineering specifications and safety standards.
  • Conduct site surveys and prepare installation reports.
  • Ensure all cabling, mounting, and hardware setup is completed to required standards.
  • Liaise with site contacts and project managers to coordinate access and installation schedules.
  • Ensure all work onsite is completed in accordance to Australian standards.

Picking and Packing

  • Accurately pick and pack devices, components, and accessories based on deployment schedules and BOMs.
  • Ensure all items are labelled, documented, and prepared for transport in accordance with logistics procedures.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and report discrepancies to the Asset Manager or other stakeholders as identified.

Commissioning of Devices

  • Power up and configure devices post-installation, ensuring connectivity and functionality.
  • Perform system checks, firmware updates, and initial diagnostics.
  • Document commissioning results and escalate issues to engineering or support teams as needed.
  • Train end-users or site representatives on basic device operation if required.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comply with Cubic’s Quality Management System
  • Comply with Cubic Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures
  • Comply with security in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Comply with Cubic Human Resources Procedures
  • Maintain professional conduct and represent the company positively on site
  • Continually seek to improve processes and implement improved methods of working
  • Other duties as assigned by the Installation Manager or Project Lead

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Construction White Card (Mandatory – required for site access; can be obtained once commenced in role)
  • Relevant Trade or Technical qualifications e.g. electrical, IT, telecommunications (Desirable)
  • Forklift or manual handling certification (Desirable)

Skills Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in field installation or commissioning roles.
  • Familiarity with electromechanical systems and basic networking.
  • Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and installation guides.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to fault-find effectively.
  • Comprehensive computer and operating system knowledge and proficiency using MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Understanding of operations, first line maintenance of devices and cash collection procedures.
  • Understanding of processes automated in Service Management Systems or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of AFC (Automated Fare Collection) equipment installation process
  • Understanding and ability to read installation and layout drawings and engineering plans

  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and to perform effectively in team environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as required.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and when working with tight timeframes
  • Ability to remain adaptable to changing site conditions.

Condition of Employment:

  • Successful outcome of required employment checks – i.e. National Police Check, Licence Check, Pre-Employment Medical, and Working Rights Check
