About this role

Affinity Water have an opportunity for an Investment Programme Manager to join our Asset Strategy & Capital Delivery team on a 14 month fixed term contract.

The Role:

As an Investment Programme Manager you will lead on assigned investment programmes to ensure a efficient value-based delivery. This will include developing knowledge and insights towards AMP8 (understanding the way we make decisions and what we need to be successful), forecast outturn, improve quality of decision making at Totex Governance and Totex Committee (e.g. by making sure relevant investment proposals are presented to advise the directors about what choices they have), providing successful engagements with delivery teams and stakeholders as well as ensuring projects are delivered on time, to cost, delivery quality, with expected outcomes and benefits.

What you'll be doing:

As an Investment Programme Manager, you will work within the Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery Directorate, reporting to the Investment Portfolio Manager within the Investment Programme Management (IPM) team.

You will support in capturing the overview of seven programmes totalling to circa £250m of the AMP8 capital programme.

The IPM comprises of the following teams: Investment Estimating, Investment Portfolio, Investment Risk & Planning, Programme Management Office, and closely collaborates with other Business Partner’s support (e.g. finance, commercial).

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Responsibility of supporting in programme/project governance compliance through interaction with programme/project manager throughout the lifecycle of the projects leading to a smooth transition into operational business.

  • Use financial data and performance trends to inform decision-making, provide constructive challenge, and ensure investment delivery remains aligned to approved funding and business objectives.

  • Own the Quarterly Rolling Forecast (QRF) for allocated investment programmes, ensuring a high degree of forecast accuracy across capital expenditure, phasing, and cashflow.

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of programme finances and provide timely, accurate reporting and recommendations to support governance and investment decisions.

  • Responsibility of supporting in programme/project assigned investment programme baselining with respect to plan and budget.

  • Engage and manage direct stakeholders in context of their role within the programmes.

  • Support in Identifying projects change (scope, time, budget) within agreed tolerances and/or influence/escalate changes accordingly.

  • Identify and support projects delivery team strategy for obtaining any required 3rd Party consents, highlighting program and project risks relating to the consents required.

What you'll need:

  • A strong level of experience of project management within water industry. (Essential)

  • Demonstrable financial and commercial expertise, including capital budget management, expenditure forecasting, variance analysis, and forecast assurance across large-scale investment programmes.

  • Experienced in building positive and productive relationships and making links with stakeholders within business.

  • Be initiative-taking and proactive in tracking a range of different tasks and projects, anticipating risks and issues.

  • Demonstrate your capability with risk-based and analytical decision-making.

  • Ideally Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. (Desirable)

  • Ideally hold or be willing to work towards an appropriate professional body membership or equivalent. (Desirable)
