Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is seeking a motivated, technically curious student with a passion for artificial intelligence, automation, and operational excellence to join our Managed Services team. Managed Services keeps the enterprise running — spanning IT operations, cloud engineering, network engineering, application/integration engineering, and observability. As an AI & Automation Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience using AI, scripting, and modern automation platforms to reduce manual toil, improve system reliability, and accelerate incident response in a collaborative, Agile environment.
What you'll do:
Automation & Scripting: Build, test, and deploy automation scripts, workflows, and bots (using Python, PowerShell, and low-code tools such as Power Automate) to streamline repetitive operational tasks and manual processes.
AI-Enhanced Operations (AIOps): Experiment with AI tools like Microsoft Copilot to improve alert triage, event correlation, anomaly detection, and root-cause analysis across the environment.
Observability & Monitoring: Help implement monitoring, alerting, and dashboarding strategies; tune performance; and support site reliability engineering (SRE) practices to improve uptime and resiliency.
Cloud & Infrastructure Automation: Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and cloud automation initiatives in Azure, supporting scalable, secure, and self-healing operations.
Collaboration & Mentorship: Partner with engineers across IT Operations, Cloud, Network, and Application/Integration Engineering. Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Capstone Project: Tackle a real-world challenge such as automating a manual operational workflow, building an AI-assisted monitoring dashboard, or reducing alert noise to improve mean time to resolution (MTTR).
Training & Development: Receive guidance from experienced engineers and participate in workshops, brown-bag sessions, and hands-on labs to grow your technical and professional skills.
Technology Focus Areas:
AI & Automation: Microsoft Copilot, Power Automate / RPA, Python, PowerShell, event-driven automation
Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure, DevOps Pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, IaaS/PaaS/Container architectures
Observability & SRE: Monitoring, alerting, dashboards, performance tuning, resiliency patterns
Operations & Data: ITSM/ITIL fundamentals, log & metric analysis, SQL, JSON/APIs
What We're Looking For:
High School diploma required
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
Strong interest in automation, AI, and IT operations
Intellectual curiosity and a drive to learn
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
A positive attitude and a desire to have fun at work
Experience or interest in one or more of the following: Scripting or programming (Python, PowerShell, Bash) , AI/ML concepts such as anomaly detection and automation , Cloud computing and infrastructure automation (Azure) , Monitoring, observability, and site reliability engineering , Process improvement and workflow automation
