About this role

ABOUT LUMILENS

At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow’s AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing faster, cooler, and massively more efficient.

We’re a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by industry’s veterans who’ve built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. This isn’t incremental innovation, it’s a ground-floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up. You’ll work alongside a team of world-class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in optics, systems, and scale. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow.

If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact jump on the rocket ship. We’re just getting started.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We’re looking for a motivated IT Specialist Intern to serve as a first point of contact for end-user technical support across Lumilens. In this role, you’ll focus on day-to-day Helpdesk T1 and T2 support, including ticket triage, device troubleshooting, onboarding and offboarding support, and hardware asset management. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from full-time IT team members on broader endpoint management, identity access, SaaS administration, and security initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as a first point of contact for T1 and T2 Helpdesk support, triaging and resolving end-user tickets across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments.

  • Assist with device imaging, configuration, and deployment for new hire onboarding using MDM platforms such as Jamf, and Intune.

  • Support user onboarding and offboarding processes, including account provisioning and deprovisioning in identity platforms such as Microsoft Entra.

  • Troubleshoot L1 and L2 connectivity issues including Wi-Fi, VPN, and basic VLAN-related problems, escalating to full-time IT team members as needed.

  • Assist with hardware asset management, including inventory tracking, asset tagging, and lifecycle documentation.

  • Support conference room AV equipment maintenance, including troubleshooting displays, video conferencing systems, and audio hardware.

  • Create and maintain Helpdesk documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles to support team efficiency and knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate with full-time IT team members on projects spanning endpoint management, identity and access management, SaaS administration, and security.

Key Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Foundational understanding of operating systems including macOS, Windows, or Linux; coursework or personal experience counts.

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support a diverse, non-technical user base with patience and empathy.

  • Eagerness to learn, take initiative on Helpdesk tasks, and collaborate effectively with full-time IT team members.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior Helpdesk, IT support, or customer-facing technical support experience through an internship, part-time role, volunteer experience, or similar hands-on environment.

  • Familiarity with an MDM platform such as Jamf, Intune, or Kandji.

  • Experience with Google Workspace, Slack, or Zoom administration.

  • Basic scripting knowledge in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automating routine IT tasks.

  • Familiarity with identity and access management concepts such as SSO, MFA, and user lifecycle management.

  • Experience in a regulated environment or awareness of data privacy best practices, including HIPAA or PII handling.
